Wow! Can you say mini-malibu?
I'm glad car divisions are going back to the "brand resemblance" ideals that used to be much more prevalent years back...

Toyota would be much better suited to answer that question, as they have alot more experience with "bland".

I agree, it looks godawful and it's still a Cavalier by another name.
I'm not exactly thrilled with the Toyota-ish Japanese styling of the new Malibu and current Impala either, they are terrible looking cars.
It also sounds like GM isn't going to do anything to change that.

Yo may not like the style of the new Malibu, but it seems alot of people are enjoying it. If you think about it, it can't hurt to use some Japanese styling since thats whats selling now.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I like it, especially compared to the current sedan. I really like the short rear overhang.

Except that the Japanese already do it better than anyone else.

Almost has the front fascia of a dodge. Looks like pretty bland to me too. Hopefully there is something not seen yet to spice it up a bit or I can't imagine sales will be any good.

Don't bother. You (or GM/domestics) cannot win with the import only sheeple!! :nono: :pissed:
GM/domestics and those who feel they are trying and actually ARE making good product will always be 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' to import brainwashed lemmings.
Japan, Inc. did a GREAT job with the above said brainwashing.
Like I've said before, have fun paying > $75K for your still bland as shit, no better quality than this Cobalt, Corolla when it is the ONLY game in town (like all of you just can't wait for it to be)!! :thumbsdow

I'd say its not too bad looking. I lke it better than the looks of the new corolla or lancer. It kinda resembles a Mazda 3. Which is okay, I like the 3.

The 3 series are pretty cool!! I'd be hard pressed to buy a Malibu over a 3 series but who knows! Two good cars!

Yes, it looks similar to a Camry and Avalon, not what I expect an American car to look like.

...but if a Camry sells so damn well, why not try to look like it? OMG Chevy is trying to give the consumer what they want, way to screw it up Chevy :eyes::eyes::eyes:

Because Toyota is already doing and doing it better. Making a knock-off isn't going to change that.
The way to prosperity is not turning Chevrolet into a Toyota me-too, it's making Chevrolet back into what made the brand great in the first place.
Knowing your brand and being true to your brand works every time, and not knowing your brand and screwing it up sinks it every time. History is riddled with examples.

I understand what you are saying, but I wouldnt consider the Malibu a direct knock off of a Camry. Its probably about as different from a Camry as an Accord is from the Camry. Its all the same styling, just minor differences. Cant knock Chevy for designing a car with current styling trends in mind... isnt not doing that part of what got them in so much shit in the first place? Maybe I just see it differently, but the Malibu still looks plenty Chevy and plenty American to me. They NEED cars like this to get some people interested in GM again.

If you don't like the Malibu, just go away lol. The Malibu has improved so much with this model--its an amazing improvement over its earlier forms.
And thats the 4-door cobalt. You are all used to seeing the 2-door ones. Looks fine to me.

How everyone forgets...
The Malibu(and everything else for the most part) is using cues from the SS concept car....

another shitbox from GM thats gonna hurt them. GM really needs to stop this loame bland shit and come up with something good that people want, AND can afford. The camaro is great and all, and its late at that but how many people are gonna be able to afford it when it comes out?

I don't think the execution of good little car will hurt GM. People are buying shitboxes by the thousands. I know everyone hates the Cavalier but GM made a crapload milking that platform just as Ford did with the fox body Mustangs from 70-93. I agree GM needs a good little car that they can put head to head with the Civic and Corolla.

I fail to see where they look alike, other then the standard new age sedan look....even the new accord looks close. The new malibu was built off the success of the saturn Aura which was out before the current camry so if anything Toyota copied from GM

I work at a chevy dealership, 80% of the cars that we sell are either new malibus or cobalts. People LOVE the new malibus, and with the '10 cobalt model coming out and taking cues from the malibu, I only foresee increased sales. Everyone was joking about the new malibu being the car to save GM..but it's not funny anymore- they are selling..like hotcakes.
Tired of everyone bashing GM, I've seen the results personally everyday..Besides what do I care about these cars, anyways? I'll just enjoy my DD for gas mileage purposes..don't care what it looks like. This is an f-body board afterall. I'm sure many feel the same.

Sadly, your above statement does not seem to matter on here. :(
It is almost like everyone has to take an extreme 'liberal' type view, and over-compensate with their acceptance/love/worship of import nameplates AND import fanboyzz out of some inane fear of being labelled, "racist, mulleted, ignorant, dumbass, rednecked, nazis" by said fanboyzz.
Or of being considered "not true automotive enthusiasts"<-:eyes: by them.
I guess they now run this site??
BTW; I'm really glad to hear that these cars are selling well in your area, because around here, the brainwashed sheeple will ONLY buy their import nameplates. :pissed:

Little by little im starting to see the Malibu alot more in South Florida. I had been hearing for a while that they had been selling, but never saw them anywhere. Now i see them all over the place, shopping mall parking lots, in traffic, etc. I was having coffee with a friend the other day and we saw the last generation of the Malibu before the present model. And that shit is f*cking ugly, i even mentioned to my friend how the f*ck did they go from that sh*tbox to the new one. GM has a real winner in the new Malibu, they better keep it up with the rest of their line up.

I understand its your own opinion, and know that many people don't like how the new Malibu looks. But i have to say that your comment amused me, since in the picture posted we can't even tell what the car is going to look like. The front has tape and gadgets all over it, and the rear we can't even see. I don't understand how people can call the car garbage or say it looks like sh*t, when the picture at hand doesn't really show much on how the car is going to look production wise. Heres another photo and even that one doesn't give us any clues on how its going to look come production time.

The front side windows are smaller then the rear side windows... im 6ft and I know damn well when I scoot the seat back to where Im comfortable there will be a pillar blocking my view... the car is for midgets
The car just looks cheap no style what so ever... even it they took the tape and crap off the front its still going to look like a cheap eco car... it is what it is, a cheap eco car. I just think they could have come up with somthing difrent then a mini malibu... wow what a hard desigin to come up with...

But remember if thats the look thats selling then why not go for it. I rather make a mini-malibu, than totally redesign it and come out like shit. Ok the car is for smaller sized people, so then taller people like yourselves should take a look at the malibus then. I myself am only 5'7, but i prefer the larger sized cars like the Malibu or the G8. The Cobalt is the cavaliers replacement. Its not supposed to be large and roomy, but a smaller more economical car than the Malibu.

I'm 6ft and fit comfortably into a 2 door toyota tercel. I predict the next cobalt will have plenty of room. Click on the link 2000Hawk posted, from different angles the front windows look no smaller to me.
I could appreciate someone not liking the styling, but to tell the truth you are in the minority. Some people dont like the Malibu either, or the Aveo, ect. Most people really like how they look, though. Thats who GM is selling these cars to, the majority, thats the only way to make money. I dont know how you could say it looks cheap with all the cammo and such, but I'm willing to bet its less cheap looking than the last Cobalt.
They could have come up with something different than a mini malibu, but why? Like people have already stated in this thread, the Malibu is taking off, people are starting to really like it. Why not give people the same thing for less? Dont we all see mini camrys and mini accords all over the damn place now days?

There was no competition from imports back then. It was the big 3 and that was it. They could afford to get wild with the styling. Times have changed and apparently you're in the minority with your opinions because people are buying Malibus left and right down here.

I don't dig the tiny butt looks of these new little cars.
But I did see a new black Malibu with some chrome 19 or 20" wheels with tinted windows and it looked mafia as hell!
