Just figured i would put up some info on good sound components. I bought a pair of JL audio TR 4ohm 5x7s for the speakers in the trunk, 1 pair of JL TR 6 1/2" for the back seat speakers, 2 JL w3v3 12" in the back, rockford 1100 watt amp for subs. im replacing the door speakers when i have the money and a 6 channel 800 watt amp. all speakers are 4 ohm. it sounds amazing as it sits right now. inside it has clear highs, mids, and subs. can hear it clear as day down the street turned up barely any. the speakers with exception of subs went right into the factory locations w/ factory face plates so you can even tell they are there. i will try and get some pics this weekend

Stock Monsoon HU? You still have the stock door speakers and it is awesome sounding?

i have a alpine head unit, and the door speakers are still stock for another week. it sounds amazing. the 5x7s all the way in the rear made the biggest difference in quality

5x7's just popped into the factory hatch location? Wow, I have a set of type-R 5x7's just sitting here. hmmmmmmm . . . :thumb:

Wow, you have your priorities incredibly wrong. Priorities should always be:

-Front speakers
-Amp for front speakers if needed to bypass stock crossover (is needed in our car)
-Subwoofer in the back + amp
-Amp for front speakers if NOT needed to bypass stock crossover
-Any other speakers (optional)

If he likes the way it sounds, who cares. Everyone's priorities are different.

Yes, but I think he could have liked it a lot more if he did it the way I listed. I used to do rear speakers first, 6x9s and whatnot, because that's how my dad always used to do it. In my first car, my front speakers were the last thing I did and I definitely felt dumb for not doing them earlier.

Never owned a JL. I always heard they put out but have more of a thud thud on bass hits instead of detail. Spec's don't look bad:

The TR 5x7 are the coaxs? Hard to believe they don't sound harsh with highs hitting off the hatch in that area:

One of these amps?

And these coaxs in the sails:

Plus an Alpine HU. So about 1G so far?

JL subwoofers are pretty good for SQ, just somewhat overpriced.

I think you might be right, but we won't ever find out now. I find that a lot of people end up doing the subs first and then the doors and whatnot because they can't hear them. Then again, some people are perfectly happy just adding subs and rolling with stock speakers. It's a strange world, eh?

i did the doors last because they blew out last. LOL
all the speakers in my car blew out except 1 of the door speakers.
i replaced them as the went.

Just put two 12" subs in the back and using the Stock Speakers from my 2000 Camaro SS. Hey Hatch, I have a lot of base but hard to hear the lyrics hahaha. I should buy better speakers for the front.

I may do that eventually, too. I was looking at some cdt's from KEE. At this point, anything money I put into the TA is extra, too many other things to pay for, like a new set of heads for the big block :)

i actually went to the local speaker shop because my amp stopped working, and i was aggrivated about the popping my back seat speakers were making so i inquired about the TR's and i ended up getting a great deal on the 5x7s and 6 1/2"s. tbh it sounds amazing, the highs, mids, and bass sound amazing together. the door speakers, 6 channel amp, alpine steering wheel control unit, and tints are all going in on tuesday :D
im in RI for college, ct on weekends, and will be in charlotte, NC in 4 weeks. if anyone would like to check it out/hear it let me know =)
honestly it sounds amazing as it is and i really dont think i need the door speakers/amp, but i am just doing it to see how much better it can get =P
the speaker shop wants to pay me to go to sound competitions and they will pay me. and i havent even finished the system yet haha.
and no that isnt my amp, wish i knew about that one, is 300$ cheaper then what i payed lmao. i have roughly 1600$ invested so far and still another 700 or so to go lol. im really beat from work(3rd shift 11pm-7am) and might go to bed, but if i wake up from my shower a bit i will go outside and take some pics and post up in about 20-30 minutes

I always wondered what I could replace those hatch speakers with, they seem to be the loudest sounding. Are the ones you got a direct replacement, any modifications to fit?

DarkJuggalo
05-17-2008, 05:30 PM
it took a little modification, when you open it up you will notice a small 6" speaker and a little 1" tweeter. if you use a nice lil dremel tool you can slowly cut from the tweeter to the main speaker and make it about the same size. a 5x7 fits perfect and uses factory screw holes :D

o yea and i jynxed my self. i blew the door speakers today :(
i bought the new viper alarm w/ remote start for manual cars :D

They are only the loudest sounding if your system is hooked up terribly.

Sorry but it is what it is. Besides, I don't really want people to read that kind of stuff and get their priorities wrong on how to do a sound system.

Hatchetman337
05-19-2008, 10:13 AM
They should be the loudest sounding behind you since they are the only thing behind you putting out sound in the higher frequency range. If you like sound behind you also, like I do, then I think it's a great idea to replace them with 5x7's. Upgrading them should give you better quality highs and more mid, especially if you're going from a 4" to a 5x7. Once again, it all depends on what you like. Car audio setups are too individual and opinion-based to say that someone has their priorities "wrong".

He said the hatch speakers are the loudest sounding speakers from what I understood.

Hatchetman337
05-19-2008, 10:46 AM
He did. I'm thinking that that impression is just from the low-grade sound that comes from the factory tweeters back there. They can be piercing sometimes. I'm not saying that you should upgrade those speakers FIRST, but that it isn't a bad idea to upgrade them. Or, if you don't care about sound coming from behind, unhook them. I think he already has all the other upgrades, though.

Dimitri-
05-19-2008, 10:52 AM
I have quite a bit done already sound-wise. Just saving up a bit more to put in a new HU, then either sails or rear. I will prob go with the ones you recommended

dragonrage
05-19-2008, 11:13 AM
You should be setting your fader so that the hatch speakers are only barely audible (if you don't unhook them completely which is IMO better)

DarkJuggalo
05-19-2008, 12:40 PM
i love the way it sounds with fader on 0, we will see if it changes once doors are replaced and all interior speakers amped

Might take some time to get used to fading to the front more.

Hatchetman337

Isn't it a little weird to say that it's better faded to the front if it takes time getting used to it? I would think that the better way would be whichever way it is that you hear it and say "Hey, that sounds good. I like it like that."

No, I don't think so. If you were used to it being faded to the back most of your life like I was (since my dad did it that way), it might sound a little weird up front. Of course, having better front speakers would help, too. I got used to using mostly my fronts on some cheap MB Quart coaxials which sounded nowhere as good as my active component Rainbow/Seas setup now.

Hatchetman337
05-19-2008, 01:55 PM
I know what you mean about starting with it faded back. I used to do that as well since a friend of mine who was my "big brother figure" did it that way. Eventually, though, I decided by myself that I liked it better faded about equal. I just prefer a more balanced sound.

my system is now 100% complete :D all speakers replaced, and amped. and got some custom work done further to the box. put dynomat behind the license plate so it would stop rattling. got the new viper alarm with remote start installed. i love it

How much did the viper run you? You install yourself?

DarkJuggalo

nah i had the speaker place do the alarm, they had to rip out and replace a lot of the factory wiring harness and sensors and stuff to make the remote start work on a m6

DarkJuggalo

the alarm is usually almost 600, they hooked me up installed 339.91

What kind of speakers did you get in the front (650TR? CSi or CXi?) and what amp is powering them? Your hatch speakers are useless in a properly set up system. There is no way you should hear them at all over the subs.

DarkJuggalo
05-21-2008, 09:32 PM
actually i hear them all equally, 6 channel 600 watt alpine amp. front is 650 TR

lil update, since all speakers are in and amped and i have had a little time with it. the sound is above and beyond superb! it doesnt matter whether i put in acdc or lil wayne, the sound is amazing. there is a bit of rattling from the pannel above the spare tire because that plastice screw gets unlatched from the bass, but thats expected i guess. ill figure out that in the spring :D and i forgot to take a pic of my custom plate on the box =X but i can get that soon hopefully! but my car is currently gettin rdy to go in for a trans rebuild so it prolly wont be until that is done :)
