Found that story on Autoblog, and had to post it on here. The team is not sponsored by Toyota, but its funny to see they opted out for an LS2 because of the reliability.

LMAO, they better watch out for shiny reflections on the mountain tops during the race.

And rightfully so. We all know that an LS-2 is more robust than anything Toyota has to offer. I don't see any reason Toyota shouldn't sponsor it, they sponsor other vehicles that are Toyota badged but run GM power plants.

The truck pictured isnt an auctual race vehicle... its a prerunner used to run the corse prior to the event....and mark landmarks/hazards with GPS.... Its not uncommon to see different makes of engines/bodies in the desert... typical engine package for a trophy truck would be 430+ cubes all alum smallblock Motec fuel injection th400 and about 770/630 on the water brake
