Small Block & Big Block Chevy Specific - LT1 startup after rebuild question

I've rebuilt my LT1, used all the recommended assembly lubes and such, the problem is the engine has been sitting for over a year now. I've heard that some sort of system pre-oil or priming should be done. Need to know if there is more than one way to do this or if it is truly necessary. Thanks

Shit, if it was mine, i would spin it over with no power to the coil so it wouldnt fire. That way the oil pump primes the engine. Spin it over for about 6-8 seconds, take a 10 second break and then repeat 5 times. If you used good assy lube then the build up from it should still be there on the bearings. If it was a flat tappet cam you should worry but its not.

Watch the oil pressure gauge and repeat untill pressure is built.
