Stereo & Electronics - '99 T/A Coupe--speaker recommendations wanted

Hey y'all,

I've been away from the LS1 scene for a while, but over the weekend I de-mothballed my Hawk and have been working towards getting it back up to snuff. It turns out that the extended "sitting" time wasn't kind to my Monsoon system--it blew one of the sail panel subwoofers after about an hour, and the rest of the system simply sounds muddy and indistinct (or maybe it's just hard to hear over the buzzing/vibrating of the blown speaker).

Since I spend a lot of time in the car and a lot of time listening to music, this is going to be the first thing I get fixed. I spent most of last night reading through this forum and have come to the conclusion that car audio has moved on since the last time I paid ANY attention to what was going on, so I'm hoping y'all can provide some recommendations for me so I don't spend a ton of unneeded money or get something that I don't like.

I'm looking for "stock replacement" style speakers for all of them; I'm planning on keeping the factory head unit and amp for now, and I don't want anything that requires modifying the car too much. Adapters and other things that can be easily removed are fine. I'm not looking to spend a fortune, I've got about a $500 budget.

I listen mostly to rock and metal music--in particular, hard rock, power metal, and symphonic metal. I thought the original Monsoon sounded pretty decent, thought it was a bit heavy and boomy on the bass side. I typically run the EQ on it in what looks like a "checkmark" shape... about midrange for the low bass, a notch down for the midrange, and the treble most the way up. I mostly like a crisp clean sound at moderate volume, not something to rattle the windows, and I was hoping some of y'all might be able to help.

TIA everyone...

Simplest solution is hit Kee Audio up and he will square you away or check his site out. Search here and you will see all kinds of answers.

If you stay with the Monsoon $500 will cover it and you will love the sound you get. I did!
