I like how it's a 6.2L, just to top dodge's 6.1L in the challenger.. lol

300+hp Ecoboost V6. Take that Chebby!
And the V8 cars are running relatively low compression 10.7:1

I have a battery operated Sawzall, a corded Sawzall, and an oxy/acet torch. How much weight ya wanna lose? :D

Nope. I did learn that the SS (and most likely Z-28) will have LAUNCH CONTROL!! :D

Very...unsurprising.

23 highway and 3900lbs? It's a damn GTO.

I was however surprised with the wheel and tire sizes. The base model has 18's, the LT has 18/s and 19s, and the SS has 20s with 245 fronts and 275 rears. Who here honestly would have preferred 20s to 18s on the SS?

20's are too much but im sure theyll look nice. I was surprised ont he mpg rating to especially for the times and the ratings we got for our 12 yo design. I dont like the 3 spoke steering wheel...never have.

I'm pretty sure this is exactly how the initial pitch of the Camaro went:

"hey Bob, I've got an idea!"
"oh really, what is it?"
"well...how about we drag another perfectly good performance car's name through the weeds"
"sounds good man, it worked well for the GTO and Charger!"

How embarassing is it going to be for the guy who can't afford the new Camaro SS and has to go one step lower? He gets bitch slapped in the face by driving a Camaro LT. Thanks GM, as if the SS owners don't already think they are miles ahead of Z28 owners...now you pull a model out of the 1974 dumpster and dust off the badges.

GM = epic fail

just my .02, I'll stick with the classic stuff from now own.

The fact that I HAVE to do all that weight reduction is somewhat of a shame.

Oxyacetylene for me however.

Electronic throttle and 3900 lbs and IRS...that shit will be a dog in stock form. Nothing quite like flooring your car and having the computer tell you what it thinks WOT should be.

Yeah i'm pretty sure i'm never going to buy this or seriously think about buying it. I'll just get a hardtop solstice or go straight to a corvette.

So it looks like we get two V8 options:
The L99, at 400hp. I don't really know anything about this motor
The LS3, at 423hp. We all know about this gem:D

Despite the awesome powertrain:

Does anybody else kind of miss the foxbody mustang days? You bought a car that weighed 3000lbs, made about 220hp, yet still ran mid to low 14's off the showroom floor.

Now days we have a 422hp car weighing 4000lbs, and it MIGHT run a 12 second quarter mile. I miss the lighter, simpler, lets cram a big old V8 into a tin can sort of days. Hell, I bet this new Camaro isn't much faster than my old Z28, despite having a 60hp advantage. Until GM High Tech runs an ungodly fast time with the new Camaro, I'm still a bit skeptical.

An L99 eh? That designation was originally used for the 4.3L V8 in the mid 90s caprice.

I'm so-so on the styling. Not bad, but still seems a bit futuristic. I definitely like the drive train, however. Still waiting for the pricing I see...

WTF?!?!?! What the hell is up with the V6 version. 11.3:1 compression on low grade gas. That will fly......

Does anyone know that the base price for the Z28 will be?

i said it the day they said they were gonna build it again

"its gonna be a fat pig and be as aerodynamic as a brick with style to match"

Let's hope it grows on us all some...

I dont think its bad, looks much smaller then the challenger..weighs 300 lbs less...gets better gas mileage then the challenger or mustang. has way more horsepower then the mustang and as much as the challenger. And i honestly think it looks amazing, retro cues but is a modern looking muscle car. I mean what is their to complain about? I plan to buy one.

Perhaps the continuously variable valve timing will allow it to fly.

i dont think the electronic throttle is a big deal vetts have been this way for a years now....

but the 3900 lbs..... thats got to go!

+1 on being disappointed.

3913 lbs for the 6 speed auto. Awful.

IRS. Already knew about it, but still not excited. We'll see how strong it is.

20" wheels. Rear tires are only 275s. Gonna be expensive to replace and probably shitty for traction.

23 mpg. My 7 year old SS gets that with two less gears.

Like many have said before me, if this thing was 4-500 lbs lighter I'd be all over it. It's nearly as porky as the GT500 and Challenger.

The LS3 is a bad m-fer, though. If the thing manages to pull 112 MPH traps or so then my interest will be renewed.

Maybe you should research something before you post about it. Welcome to technology, DI is one of the best things to ever happen in internal combustion engines.

And since the V6 that will be used in the Camaro has already been in use for over a year now, in the car that is Motortrend's car of the year for 2008, I don't think it will have any problem keeping up with traffic.

On a side note I have driven an 08 CTS with the DI and its pretty quick. Motortrend has the 1/4 mile at 14.8 @ 95.4, thats in a 3960 lbs car with a 6 speed auto. In the 3750 lbs camaro with a manual. You're looking at low 14s @ 100mph. That's stock LT1 times from a heavier V6. Not too bad if you ask me.

Jeez you guys are terrible. Bitch and moan about them killing the Fbody and wanting them to bring it back no matter what. Then they bring it back at bitch and moan some more.

Personally I dont think its that bad. Ill be waiting on price first and compare it to the Challenger then. The Challenger is a little faster though. Camaro 13.5 to Challengers 13.4.

If you want a car just the way you want it, build a kit car. You will probably never find a car exactly the way you want it build by a major manufactur.

Also from reading the specs it sounds like a slightly heavier GTO.

So probably $0.00 - since there is 0 Z28... :bang:

it looks pretty sweet. not that i would ever want a v6 but man they looked impresive ....300 hp? and 11:1 ? ether way the v6 is useless cause it only gets 3 mpg better. i deff like the styling and i LOVE the gauges they put in the center just like the 69. overall the price tag will dictate its rise or fall. the hole idea is to get the working class man in a v8 rwd. after all theres no point in having 2 corvettes

Thats exactly what it is haha. GM is just relying on the target market being retarded and not knowing that :bang:

i guess gm finally realized if they simply re bodied the monaro instead of doing nothing and called it the GTO or Camaro, it wouldn't have been such a sales disaster.

I like the fact that the same thing will happen with the camaro as with the challenger. Magazines and car reviewers can't get enough of the big 3's collective flaccid wang with these retro themed cars. You'll pick up a motor trend and see lines like "Although it is a bit on the heavy side it still handles well, its mobile home-like bulk still managing to pull off a respectable .85 on the skidpad thanks to modern tires" and "It still pulls of a 13.3 at 104mph, who thought perfomance like this was possible!!??"

01ssreda4
07-26-2008, 09:58 PM
i think its gonna be a disaster for several reasons. i agree though its great to finally have a camaro out again, i personally like the car but nothing will change the fact that gm is in the same boat as in 02. they cant sell these like ford sells mustangs, period. enjoy it while its here. i think this will be the last round of camaros.

They kept that retarded gauge cluster...
This is turning out to be more and more disappointing.
Hopefully it doesn't get overtaken by the other domestics or the newer imports, that would be downright shameful.

petechapter50
07-27-2008, 09:17 AM
why is it retarded saying that i like the way the put the gauge cluster in the center console like the old ones? this car is about performing good ....but not like corvette good .....at a budget and looking good and bringing back the style and the memories of the old camaros. i gess most guys on here just have ls1's and do whatever to make them fast but i got into the 4th gens f bodys after i couldent afford to drive the cars i grew up with. i got into cars through classic chevelles and camaros but if you dident notice you cant find one at a reasonable price anymore. not only that but there old they ride like shit and there not that reliable so it would be nice to have a car that feels like a 69 camaro but rides handles and has the reliability of a new car.
