Well I am in the market for a GPS system and know NOTHING about them. A cousin of mine recently purchased a Magellean and loves it. What are some of the better options but somewhat inexpensive? My price range is under $300. She got hers off of overstock.com for cheap.

I'm amazed that no one here has any input on GPS systems...

I've also heard great things about the Garmin units. The Kenwood products I carry use Garmin.

I recently purchased a Garmin Nuvi 360 for around $220 and I love it. Used it extensively on my recent trip to Indy Bash and back. The 360 has Bluetooth capability and it's connected to my telephone on the road. I drive a lot and I really find myself relying on it now. Of course, it's a portable unit so I can move it between all my vehicles. Highly recommended.

I've used a few different GPS units (Magellan -- Hurst NeverLost, Pioneer -- AVIC-D3, Garmin --- StreetPilot i5 & Nuvi 680) and the Garmin brand is the best I've used so far.

Here is a recent thread about GPS units:

Whichever unit you buy from whichever brand, make sure all the maps are loaded into the on-board memory and not "regional" sections that you have to load.

Garmin is the only brand I'll buy now. Keep in mind how much you want to spend and look for the model that fits that budget and has the features you want.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 680 and it works great.

Some features:
* roughly 2" x 4" touch screen
* Reads street names
* Bluetooth (I've used it as a speakerphone for my cell phone)
* MP3 (I've never used it though)
* Built-in rechargeable battery
* Charging port is standard USB
* SD Memory card slot
* Audible Navigation via built-in speaker or FM Transmitter to car's radio
*.... many more features ... check out Garmin's site

It was also about $350 at Costco a month or two ago. I bought it a while back (earlier this year or late last year). There might be a newer version out now.

Garmin has a full range of units with differing price/feature sets.
