Default C5 Corvette Caliper Brake Conversion

I've been posting about it for a while now and I finally got it all together. I got a full set of rebuilt C5 Vette frt and rear calipers (powder coated red) from a buddy at work cheap! Then you need 98-02 F Body caliper brackets. Got em on e-bay cheap. Next I got some EBC Redstuff ceramic brake pads for 98-02 F-Body. Purchased SSBC drilled/slotted zinc plated rotors for 00-05 monte/impala. (12 inch rotor 06-07 models work also) and finished it off with braided stainless steel brake lines from the w-body store. Their frt brake lines are a lil bit longer than factory. You can use your factory lines if you bend the factory mount bracket. So far my monte seems to stop a little quicker. Not a major difference. You can see the f-body pads are slightly wider in size as compared to stock. Not enough to really make a difference though. But it looks sick and frees up a lil weight. This would be of no benefit to GXP's as I believe their brakes are damn near identical to C5 frt and rear brakes. I'm still working on a way to adapt the rear brakes to my C5 calipers. As soon as I figure it out I'll let you all know. Here's some pics.

Yup yup. 12inch rotors for 00-05 monte/impala or the stock 12inch 06-08 imp/monte will work also. Gotta use a 12 inch rotor with the f-body caliper brackets. Its the biggest diameter rotor it can fit and also is 98-02 f body stock rotor size also. Now I'm working on converting the rears. Thinking GXP 12inch rear rotors and GXP rear caliper brackets might work with the C5 rear calipers. I will let you all know as soon as I figure something out for the rear also.

I'm sure they would. You'll just need a kit to mount them on an f-body. You might need to modify a bracket or 2 though. It'd be interesting to try. I'm sure it can be done.

Just a FYI, the GXP rotors are just cross drilled, not slotted like your fronts. Just letting you know in case you wanted them to match 100%.

EDIT: Also, get the GM ceramics, the stock GXP pads dust like a bastard

I agree with stealthV8. I definitely like that someone isn't waiting for a kit to come out. I give some mad props to you, montess8707!

Just to let everybody know the stock brake lines will work with some bending of the hardlines and customizing the brake line bracket. Found out the hard way! Left front brake line blew out on my way home from work wednesday nite. Luckily didn't cause or get into an accident. Defective brake line. Oh well that **** happens. See it everyday turning wrenches.

Thank goodness everything is ok and you didn't get hurt! When you get it back in shape please take some pics of the repairs you made. As to let everyone else know the issues you had and hopefully they won't have the same!! Thanks again for being the master in brakes, at least here!

was lookin to do somethin like this..
but was wondering doesnt the 06 impala SS already have 12 inch rotors and dual piston calipers? so the only true upgrade would be shedding a few pounds due to the lightweight material?and of course..it looks a million times better..
