i want exhaust on my gxp so i have decided to just replace the mufflers. what kind of mufflers should i get and whats the diameter of inlet and outlet of the stock muffler?

 

Stock is 2.25. Muffler choice is completely personal preference. I have Super 44s...and they are on the louder, deeper side. Others on here have magnaflows, which are more mellow, more reserved mufflers. There's even people with SLP and Hooker exhaust components around here. Listen to some sound clips on youtube or get out and here different exhausts in person before you drop the cash to make sure you like what you're getting.

You should get the same diameter because it would be too much work for no gain to get a larger diameter and match it up with a reducer. Our exhaust system is limited the most by the small diameter crossover pipe as well as restrictive headers right off the engine. We will never be able to get this thing flowing well until they come out with an aftermarket kit for that. Delete the res and add new mufflers, you'll love the sound. Peace and chicken grease.

 

Get SLP Shotgun or Loudmouth 1 Mufflers. IMHO The Shotguns are the best as the magnaflow system I have on my car from the last buyer is just too quite for me.

Personally, I like the low rumble of the magnaflows I have. They defintely give a v-8 rumble but they aren't the loudest. If you drive it everyday, I wouldn't suggest anything like a flowmaster 44 as they have a lot of interior drone. If you don't mind a lot of interior drone then make it loud and scare little kids and honda civics when you drive by! LOL

 

I want the loudest, nastiest, scariest exhaust I can get without glass packs of course HAHAHA

First, are you installing the mufflers? Doubt it since it will require you to cut and weld! Second, the resonator, in order to delete it you will need to cut it out and weld in or clamp in a new piece of pipe of the same diameter. Third, now is the best time to delete the cat, with the down pipe since your already there! Just make sure you have someone or something to clear the CEL.

 

I have a guy who does HP tuning. I think that will be a perfect time to get it tuned with my custom fenderwell intake as well correct? will that delete the code?

 

Your local exhaust shop will remove and replace with a piece of pipe for cheap.

I was wondering....do you need to buy new tips or can you use the old ones?

 

Yep HP will do the trick, you have to make sure you tell them to remove the rear o2 sensor. And you can have them reattach the original tips if that's what you want.

Going catless in unnecessary, the car will stink and it would be annoyingly loud imo. You won't be gaining any performance from going catless. New tips are a must, if you get a loud exhaust and weld on the old tips then you are not doing the car justice. I had my exhaust custom made and i even went up to a 3" high flow cat, 3" straight pipe with a 3" magnaflow muffler, back into dual 2.5 pipes into 2.5" borla tips, once i got the Borla tips put on it made a world of difference. IMO this setup sounded much better than any other combo i heard in person (including straight pipe, magnaflow cat back, and flows). I live in Granite City Illinois and i don't know of any reputable exhaust shop that will just wack off a cat and put on straight pipe, ive tried with another vehicle when i was a little younger.
