Default Thorley Header Project Update

All,

I just wanted to provide an update....

I dropped the car off with Nick tonight and here is the schedule of events, so to speak:

-- The car will go in tomorrow morning. First up will be a few dyno runs on their Dynojet to establish a baseline.
-- Videos will be taken and posted on Youtube
-- Their R&D guru will begin to work his magic...they will start with 1.750" primaries and use 0.375" thick mounting flanges.
-- Once a preproduction set is done and all mounted up, the car will go back on to the dyno. The preproduction set is then removed and scanned, etc., for their various pipe bending robots.
-- Production sets will be ceramic coated inside and out.

Any idea on the potential (let's be conservative) gains?

Yes, that's their LT headers on the G8 GT. I'm gonna guess and say 22WHP before tune with these. Just my guess, anyone else wanna play.

I don't they'll be huge gains until an intake and a more aggressive cam are in. Those three together should yield a lot of gains.

Damn I wish I could afford 600 bucks right now. I'd love a set of headers. I'll say 20 - 25 crank hp over stock manifolds. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Enough for ~400 bhp/lb·ft at the crank? Or would we need more displacement?

Quick update:

Just heard from Nick at Thorley-- The best "before headers" dyno run given my mods was 258 HP and 279 TQ at the wheels. I am no expert on dynos, but Nick said that Dynojets "tend to read a bit low." Given the crappy transaxle and high-stall TC on these cars I would think a 20% driveline loss figure wouldn't be too far out of line. I thought I would post this as a "FWIW".

Anyway, on to the next phase!

Morgan

PS: My car has the OEM downpipe & OEM cat, not a Hogan setup.

I thought dynojets read high, and mustang dynos read lower?

You are correct, on average the Mustang dyno reads lower.

Dynos are only as good as the person operating them. The operator can set them up to read high or low. For power comparisons you need to use the same dyno setup before & after mods.

When I 1st dynoed my Wife's 06 V6 Mustang it pulled almost 400rwhp with only exhaust mods due to a wrong cal entered. The next 3 runs were 203-206 rwhp which was more of what I was hoping for.
