Default Motor Mount Flip?

Hi guys. Ive been seeing that a lot of you do the motor mount flip to your gxp. I was wondering a couple things before i become one of those followers.

#1 What will it do for me?
#2 What is the negative for doing it?
#3 Any suggestions otherwise regarding this mod

Thanks for your suggestion guys

the motor mount flexes less so the power gets to the ground faster
it takes ten minutes
reversible

-feel shifts more
-maybe some vibration

Default Vibration

When you say that you may feel a vibration, are you talking about in the steering wheel, or the entire car or what? Just wanting to know, since im one of those that is driven crazy by vibrations.

I doubt that you will feel a vibration with the OE mount flipped (actually, turned 90*)...I didn't. It's still very pliable rubber, so it still flexes...just not as much.

Here's a diagram of the MM turned 90*. Notice that the holes in the rubber are now top & bottom, vs. front & back. The solid piece of rubber that is horizontal helps to keep the bolt in the middle from moving so much, when before the bolt could be pulled into the hollow areas.

Regarding the job itself...have plenty of lube available, a large screwdriver, breaker bar, 15mm (?) deep socket, and another 15mm wrench or ratchet & socket.

Remove the dogbone by taking out the nuts & bolts from the engine mount & front motor mount. Reinstall one bolt inside the motor mount, tightening as much as you can. Install second nut on same bolt.

Lube up the edges of the rubber bushing, using the screwdriver to pry apart the edges to allow it to seep in between the rubber & metal housing. As with all tight situations, add lube as necessary to achieve final goal.

Take deep socket & breaker on 2-nut side of bolt, and wrench/short socket on bolt side, and push towards engine. Add lube if necessary while torquing on bushing. The inside edges of the bushing may be fused to the metal from the engine heat, so it needs to be lubricated.

Remove 2 nuts & bolt & reinstall dogbone.

Not saying this is what happened, but it's possible that when turning the bushing the middle expanded section twisted out of the channel, which could have caused excess movement and vibration. I'm sure over time it would vibrate back into place.

I did this on my 08 SS and never noticed any additional vibration, but the throttle response was very noticable.

I would recommend grabbn up an MSP poly mount and upgraded Poly upper bushings and a RAT Engine Stabalizer "Dogebone" if you can....they sell them at
www.3800performance.com they are for the V6ers, but they will work for ours...they are the same mount...I think you have to buy a pair of them(come in two cause the V6 has 2) so buddy up...I would recommend you upgrade all the hardware if your going to do it though...at least eventually, as you will fill much more of the benny!!! but the poly MSP is a great start to stiffin it up even more...the factory flip is good, but your still getting movement...which you guys know that already im sure as it has been posted about the minor movement..

The good thing about the minor movement is that I have heard it cuts down on the vibration. I did it because it was a free mod so why not but on the same note as "Rossko85" I will most likely get a poly mount at some point.
