absolutly........ NO!!!!!!, lol.
the old sbc block is not set up for reverse cooling, you could make it work for alot of machining time and $$$$$$$$$$. Just go find a recked LTX car and get the block if you need a new one, or call one of the vendors and get a economy short block assembled with a warranty for under $2500, some as low as $1500 seen on ebay and here, 383 ci even. Don't waste your time or money.

i dont NEED one persay.. just want to build a motor out of the car, and drive the car how it is now, till a motor is built how i want it to be, not just pieced together..
and ls1 swap would be just as difficult right.. gotta get a new wiring harness, ecu, ect?

it is but isn't at the same time. You also would need the ls1 k-member, also a ls t56 or 4l60 plus all there components to make it easier, don't quote me on that part though. Either way, you would have a lot of work ahead of you.

my friend has a 350 sbc short block, from a 73 camaro with lt1 internals..
i might be buying it from him.. so,
if i bore it out to a 383, my LT1 heads/intake/serp system will bolt up right?
the gen 1 SBC and LT1 are vastly different engines (as insane Z) pointed out. the coolant is reverse flow, the injection systems are vastly different (assuming that you would stay fuel injected)
the question i have is what do you mean by LT1 internals... crank, rods, pistons...?
also if you are going to 383, the 350 LT1 internals are pretty much useless. you need a stroker crank, potentially different rods, etc. a 383 is put together by using a 400 crank and boring .030 over. (4.030 x 3.75). also if you were to run the higher compression pistons in the gen 1 350 with SBC heads on it your CR would be really high due to the "typical" coolant flow, as opposed to the reverse flow in the LT1 which allows the heads to stay cooler so it can run at a higher S.C.R. without predetonation or pinging.
or are you trying to put the LT1 heads on there? if that is the case, stay away from the deal.
now if you wanted to throw a carbed gen SBC on, that would be an easy swap, ditch the computer and throw a different trans in (TH-350, TH-400, 700R4) or you could go T56, but the details on mating a gen 1 SBC and a T-56 are out of my knowledge base. others may chime in on that.
good choice, there are many used lt blocks with less than 70k miles for under $500, or just do a low budget rebuilt. I work at wiseco piston and could direct ou to a sales person that can help you with off the shelf pistons, k1 crank and rods for a great price. I know it wont be as cheap but a put together a entire 370 long rod forged setup for my car for under $1k.
