Why can't I use Mallory hyfire ignition as a launch controller...
Why couldn't I use my hyfire 6 ignition? It has a 2 stage rev limiter. I could use one as my launch controller and the other to protect my engine from reving to high. Also can using these launch controllers all the time cause problems?
Yes you can use it and no they will never go off at the same time, unless you set them the same. Hook that baby up and have fun!!
Great! But I think you misunderstood the last question. I was asking if using launch controllers all the time could hurt the engine. It just sounds awful. Also the popping seems as if it would cause major knock retard hurting performance.
If you have cats, it will destroy them quickly. Also i think if the rev limiter isn't very fast acting, aka not bring the spark back in after cutting it out, it will let more unburned fuel into the exhaust and possible cause some muffler damage. Something I learned... your engine doesn't care what kind of sounds it making. 6k rpm on the 2 step is no different than hitting 6k rpm on your way up to a 7k rpm shift, except for maybe the time you spend at that rpm.
How good are these Mallory boxes? I've talked to some old school guys who say Mallory is junk and hate their stuff.
Have you guys using them had good success w them tho?
