Default Oil pickup tube has fallen off

Upon heavy breaking and/or stopping, my oil pressure gauge drops to zero and check gauges light comes on. So I changed the oil and flashed some light in the pan... sure enough there is the pickup tube rolling around at the bottom.

What have you all found to be the easiest way to drop the oil pan?

remove the two long motor mount bolts. raise the engine as high as you can go. then remove the pan.

Depending on what exhaust you have you might have to drop the y pipe. You have to take off the starter and oil cooler if you have one to get the pan off. It's easier to do on an auto car than a 6 speed car. It can be done w/o dropping the k member.

bring motor to #6 TDC...more clearance to drop pan when doing it with motor in car...which you will have to raise

You're lucky. When that happened to mine, it spun the #4 rod bearing. Luckily for me, I was still under warranty and got a replacement long block...4 bolt mains for me

I don't know why they never welded the pickup on. Mine wasn't the only one in at the dealership also, a 95 TA came in with the same problem. This was back in '00.

How does the car still get oil pressure with no pickup? Other than during heavy braking, pressure is normal.

could be enough oil in the pan to reach the pick up hole in the pump but when you jack on the brakes it all sloshes forward and you suck air instead of oil.
