Question OBD1 or OBD2

I'm putting a 96 LT1 into my AC Cobra replica and had a question for you LT Gurus. I'm going to be using a stock tune for now with all emissions,EGR, VATs etc removed. Later I plan on a LE1 upgrade. Which Computer is best to use? I have the stock 96 OBD2 now. Is it better to use a 94-5 OBD1 instead? Which PCM/ ECM is best for my situation and why. Thanks for helping out an old carb guy.

The OBD1 is cheaper to tune or to monitor and tune yourself if you so choose, for the price of a cable($30-95) you can get unlimited email updates from proffessional tuners for a one time fee of $60-75. Personally I would go with the OBD1 and get a proffessional tune with the updates option right away. There is power and drivability to be had on a stock motor with tuning, might as well enjoy it now. Some tuners claim to be able to get a few more HP out of OBD1 though I don't understand how.

considering your project I would opt for an OBDI conversion. That way you don't have to suffer through all of the emission codes that would be set. It's also going to be easier to monitor and tune as said above.

The nive thing about an OBD-II code is mis-fire tables for trouble shooting. Other then that for what you are doing I would go with a 94-95 PCM

yeah misfire tables are good, but they can also wreak havoc with a cam sometimes.

my vote is for OBD1 cheaper and less wires. also easier to wire up since your a custom job.

good luck finding what you need cause ive been watching ebay for a while now for a 94/95 ecm.

Why not just go yank one out of a 94-95 B body? There should be lots in the bone yard. I would try the Impala SS websites to try and source a ecm there if there if you can't find one in a wrecking yard.

The OBD1 swap is popular on the b-body forums so few OBD1 pcms get sold everyone always already knopws someone who wants their extras.
It may help your boneyard scavanging to know that the pcm is the same part number in the 94-95 Caprice, Impala, Roadmaster, and Fleetwood, even the L99 cars got the same part number pcm.

94-5 OBD1 controls the tranny and can send you information on it too.
