This topic really has been beat to death, but here is the honest answer..... as much as I hate to say it LS1's are and will always be better. And they should they are the next generation motor, I wouldnt buy a car that was worse than the year before it, see what I am saying? But in the same right the LS1 is by no means the God motor that most people think. I find most LS1 owners (that I know personally, this is not a crack at you guys) have a complex about how the LS1 is superior to everything. Its not. The facts are, it has better flowing heads, better top end, and responds well to mods. The LT1s have more low end, sound better, and will usually run a lot longer than LS1's. Mine has 150,000 miles, is a stock A4 and still runs low 14's, which is good for a stock LT1. Both have their pros and cons, so read up on them yourself, a choice like buying a car shouldn't be dictated by a car forum. Do the research, read the old arguments in past threads and make your own informed decision. Good luck and no matter which one you pick you are already ahead of the game by buying an F-body. cheers

Around my area, you can find a nice 35-50k mile car, for 9-11k. I'm not too worried about M6 or A4, both would work for Me. A4 is just more convienent for what I use my car for. In my area the cars are going pretty cheap, and I rarely see LS1 sell for 20's nowdays, M6 or A4. The only cars I see sell in the 20's, are highly and tastefully modded. Or the more rare optioned cars, not just your basic black/black M6 with 25k miles, is going for 20,000 dollars.

I can't stand those LS1 guys that site here and say: Oh yeah, us LS1 guys are much smarter than those LT1 guys. It's ridiculous. And I also hate when they claim the LS1 is gods motor and they are faster than anything. Some dicks in LS1's piss me off.

It's a good motor, but there is always something new and improved coming along... such as the LS2. There is always something faster, even if it is a Funny Car lol.

i have a 140 k on my car. it has the original motor and i never lifted a valve cover on to do any motor mods. it's an a4 and it went out on my at 130 k(was the original never built) i paid $2,700 for it. with a borla open,gutted cats,373's, and a hypertech i ran 13.3's all day long in dead heat weather. i also had street tires. the car starts up every time and is fast for the miles. i have a total of $4,600. everytime i raced an ls1 with the same mods i beat it by a half a car length. i would crush them off the line and then they would start to catch me but too were too late by the time the 1/4 was over. the a4 ls1's would give me a better race off the the line but i usally pulled them more than the m6's. they only time i would loose to an ls1 is when the had more mods than me. yes the ls1 is better but why pay 15,000 k for car thats just as fast as a 4,800 k car??? also there pretty much the same car besides the front end and motor to name the major differances. i found a couple of z28's and formula's for $5,500 and 7,000 but thats at a car auctions i go to. like everyone else says ls1's are a better motor but it's a more exspensive base. there's nothing wrong with a lt1 for the money. people are just more hypt up over the ls1's and there tech.

I love my 96 LT1 T/A. I just have poor man mods and I run 13.5's mainly stock.LS1' s Stock kill me at the track . I know a bunch of guys that have just a converter and run 12's stock motor.Go with a lt1 with alot of juice LOL . Now that I have NOS when i race on the streets stock LS1's always ask "what you got?" ALL BOTTLE

Free Mods
Stock heads expect Valves LOL

The LT1 came out in 1992, LS1 in 1997, this site came around in , I think there may be a post some where you can search for, I wish mods would lock these treads.

its funny how whenever a new engine comes out all of a sudden the previous is now junk...look what happened to the TPI when the lt1/4 came out its the same ol story i have a love for them all and when modded its anyones guess on who will win!

This was one of my cars VS the other. the Camaro at the time was busting off consistant 13.1's in the 1/4.
Then , I took the LS1 t/a to the track bone stock on street tires and busted out a 13.3@108 like nothing with a 2.3 60 foot time.
After owning 3 LT1's and one LS1 and having to sell me cammed ls1 and get back into an LT1 I can tell you from life exp. the LS1 is hands down way way better. Say what you want,comment what you want,but im still crying over the loss of my LS1 and its gonna take heads and cam to get me where my LS1 was with just a small cam and I still might not get there with just the heads and cam.

lol J/K he is my cousin/best friend. (TA shopping) we're both in the same boat. Im17 and have had my car for 2 years now.(94 firebird 3.4) and i know alot of ppl on this site like to down on the v6 and im not trying to start a flame war at all. I love my car its been really good to me. Ive had my fun with mods: all the basic bolt ons, 3.73s, etc. and it never let me down. but im ready to step up to a v8. I would really like to get an LS1 but my proce range is only around 8k. I have been so frustrated looking for the right car. ive been lurking the classifieds here for a few months and every ls1 car in my price range is a freaking a4. i really want an m6. what do u guys think the chances of me finding a mid to high mileage 98 TA for around 8k????

anyway, im also looking at lt1 cuz i think it would be fast enough for me plus its ALOT more affordable than the ls1s. I would prolly put a cam with specs similar to the T-Rex cam, heads, and intake. what kind of #s/ times do u think a setup like this would net me?

i know this topic has been beat to death but im a noob so help me out guys.

I like your outlook, while at school, we have around 30,000 or so students if I remember correctly, so few fbody's and it's sad. Funny thing is that when we do get the chance we park next to each other, v6, lt1, ls1, it's just nice to be next to a similar car versus a little pos integra or hatch. Reminds me oh high school when "hondas" where the fast and cool cars i mean

I hear you on that one, there are quite a few F-Bodys around my area, considering the town I live in only has 10,000 people, around 6,000 of them being College students. And there are 5 V8 F-Bodys, 3 LT1, and 2 LS1's... quite a few V6's though. Me and my buddy have bolt-ons, and one guy has a totally pimped 99 Z. The other LS1 is a 00 SS, which I've had the pleasure of driving on quite a few occasions. Overall we have a nice little car club, a couple of our highschool friends drive old school muscle, 72 Chevelle, 70 Nova SS. And we even have a tasteful 97 Maxima in un-official club. But for the most part, everyone is driving ricers... such as Probes with 3 foot Carbon Fiber wings, and dual fat-pipes. I hate the fact that everyone thinks they drive a sports-car, since that damn Fast and Furious movie. I didn't buy my car to be cool, I bought it because I love F-Bodys, the image, power, style... everything. And I drive a Rear-Wheel Drive, V8, Camaro... not just another drop in the bucket low-end import, trying to be fast.

Overall, who really cares what engine is under the hood. We all drive F-Bodys, and that unites us as a group. And even our stock V6 members, are much cooler than the damn ricers lol.

Most guys around here have LS1's. I barely see ANY LT1's *modded if any* and it sucks. All these guys think their cars are bad ass too *which in a sense they are*. Most people here have the Mustangs or ricers.

Why I say this is because I have both!!!! and race twice a week at our local track. Granted this local track is an 1/8th but the 1/4 would hurt an LT1 even more vs. the LS1. I am not pro LS1 by no means. I love both powerplants. But to see a full bolt and usually with a 2800-3000 stall run 8.6-8.8's and my (when it was) stock A4, 2.73 geared, factory tired, LS1 run 8.6's consistantly AND even though the dynos don't tell the whole truth of how a car will do on the track, when a full bolt on LT1 spins the rollers at 265-280rwhp and my LS1, bone stock, spun up 309rwhp.
I added lid, ported TB & MAF = 321
Then after headers and Hooker catback = 336
As for times with these mods....8.4x's...consistantly and still cutting the stock stall 2.0x 60'ers
