No, they are different. They both use the same bolt pattern, but the pattern is offset to one side on the GTO base when compared to the F-Body (or vice-versa, depending upon which way you want to look at it).

Same sensors but different shifter design. You can do a simple swap on the shift selector in the tail housing to make a GTO fit a F body or visa versa on making a F body T56 fit into a GTO.

No, the shift pattern is the same. The four holes for the bolts that secure the shifter base to the tail-housing of the transmission are in different locations in relation to the shifter shaft between the two different cars.

Since it hasn't been mentioned, I'll throw it out there that they also have different gearing (GTO uses the 2.97 gearing).

They are externally the same other than the shifter block. The tail housing is the exact same! If you pull your shifter off you will see a cast block with the plastic cup in it. Those need to be changed by knocking out the roll pin and replacing the GTO block (which is set further back) with the F-body block. Also worth noting is the difference in gear ratios in the GTO vs. the F-body.

F-body and GTO use a different shifter. The have the same tail housing but the block that the shifter bushing sits in is different. What exactly are you wanting to do? Are you putting an f-body transmission in your GTO or something? Please fill us in so we can help you better. Thanks!

Ok. All you will need to do to put your f-body shifter on the GTO transmission is knock the roll pin out of the shifter block and replace the GTO block with the f-body block. In this picture it shows a side by side shot of the GTO vs the F-body. The GTO is the longer block that is on the shifter shaft. The f-body is the one sitting on top.

that solenoid there adjacent to the shifter area, is that reverse lock-out or skip shift or ?? What's the other one forward a bit under the 4 bolt plate? It was un-hooked when I bought this complete take-out, why would someone do this?

thanks in advance,
TJ
