Default 4th gear syncro going? Symptoms?

What are symptoms of my 4th gear syncro going bad? Usually if I try shifting hard and fast into 4th gear I get lots of grinding and it just won't go into gear. In order to go into gear, I have to ease it in slowly, just push it until it slides in.

In regular driving 4th gear also seems to be tougher to get into it and requires more effort.

Tick adjustable master, new slave, new ls7 clutch, stock tranny

Your symptoms are those of a synchro going bad...

Yeah, sounds like a synchro. You having any problems with any other gears, or just that one gear?

If so, then yes, synchro (engagement teeth could be jacked up on 4th as well, especially if you continue to drive it)

Theres no problems on any other gear except when the tranny is cold and I try to shift fast( which is probably because the tranny is cold )

would'nt he have an issue with 3rd as well? the syncro is the same one for 3rd and 4th gear,, or am i wrong on that....(trannynewb)

i know on mine,, EVERY NOW n THEN (when its cold or i first get the car out, and only when im driving like i stole it) i get a sound/feeling when going into 3rd/4th like there is no clutch,, i get a slight grind when going into those gears under those circumstances,,,, but it goes right in. After it warms up it has no issues at all. (in that dept )

why would you try to shift fast when the tranny is cold? let the thing warm up before you start flogging it.

I don't purposely try it, but sometimes I forget and I just shift quickly right away(not in high rpms either, were talking regular every day 2k rpm shifting)... It happens about once a month

No, not necessarily. Even though 3rd and 4th share teh same synchro, each gear has its own "side". Here is a picture of a synchro:

http://www.morrismotorsports.net/t56_parts_for_sale

Now, if a KEY was an issue, or teh fork (or fork pads), then YES, he would have a problem with 3 and 4 more than likely, since the synchro (or slider) slides on the same key when engaging 3rd or 4th, and if it was a fork, 3rd and 4th share teh same fork (and pads) so would have a problem with both gears as well if fork (or pad)

Thanks for the responses... I'm gonna probably end up sending it to Tick for a level 2 whenever I save up the money. They've always treated me right with my clutch/tranny problems months ago :]
