Default Help with tranny removal.

Hey, so I am doing a auto to manual swap on a f-body. Probably the 5th one I have done. Anyways I am having an issue with this car that I have not had before. With the tranny cross member removed, TQ arm removed, driveshaft ect... the tranny only lowered about 1 1/2". Far from enough to access the bolts near the top. Looking over the car it looks to have new motor mounts, maybe poly mounts, dont know exactly as I am a vette mechanic more than an f-body mechanic. The mounts seem to be limiting the drop of the tranny.

What would be the best method of getting that tranny to drop down more?
Thanks!!!

Yeah the polys are gonna limit the movement some if they are there. Only other alternative is stated above. I would be after a big crowbar before I loosened up those mounts though

You should still be able to get it out. I got one out that had solid mounts.

Leave the bottom bolts in and pull down on that mother..

Are you on a lift with it? If so take a long 2x4 and place it under the Balancer, let the lift down a lil and watch the Engine tilt back.

Are you trying to get the auto out or the t56? Can you not get the bolts that are on the top? I have never needed to get the trans down lower. If you need the trans down lower you can loosten the bolts that hold the k-member in. Keep the two fronts on a little and let the backs out and then let the centers out a bit while holding the back of the oil pan with a screw jack. Make sure not to place the screw jack in the center because you can crack the pan. Thats if you need to do that. I dont see why you need to. Get this tool from snapon. Works everytime. IMSFXL33 you will allways be able to get to the top bolt of an auto if you hit it from the drivers side of the trans about 3/4 the way back from the tail shaft.
