Im almost done with my swap....run into a couple little probs but i got two quick questions for ya....

1.) Should my brake lights be on all the time until I get a tune?

2.) If the master cylinder is slightly off where the rod is a little bit of an angle is this going to hurt anything?

Thanks guys!

The Master should be fine, it's made to move around a little bit.

If your Tail Lights are on all the time then you have the Brake Switch out of adjustment.

How did you do your wiring?

I have never seen it in the list of needed parts to do an A4 to M6 swap, but do I need to replace my starter with a manual type or will my starter from my auto work?

That is what I thought, but it would make since that it would need to be replaced. Good job GM

OK.... Not to beat a dead horse, but my Bird is a 98; are the starters the same from 98 to 02? I know there were some differences with the 98's, I just want to be safer than sorrier.

Do'h! I seen that you are in Jacksonville and was like; Oh shit, local help!, then I read a little more, lol.

Well I just want to be clear on the starter thing since the local "know it all" shop here keeps talking different starter... different starter...

Thanks Bro!

Lots of good info in here. I'm doing a M6 to A4 swap in my 1998 T/A soon. I was going to swap in a 2002 pcm and 2000 harness but found out about the gauge cluster etc.

Now I'm researching and probably just going to get a 1998 A4 harness and make the PNP and shiftlock work again with my M6 interior harness.

doing mine right now......i have one question tho...im changing ecm and harness with my swap. so the only thing i need to worry about ( with the wiring part ) is the black clutch swith ( neutral safety ) , hatch release, and reverse lights right? the factory dash harness for the cruise control pluged right into the peadle swithches.

on the reverse lights tho, since im using a m6 engine harness and ecm will i have to do the wiring for the reverse lights?

You will have to tweak the Cruise Switches on the Pedals..basically add in a switch on the Clutch Pedal so the Cruise will dis-engage when you push in the Clutch.

Yea you will have to install a N/S Switch if you want it to be safe, that's not hard to do. I put a Relay on the wire that goes to the Starter, and the Switch controls it when the Key is in the start position.

The Reverse Lights are easy..find the 2 that are in the Harness, and take the 2 that are on the Auto Shifter and run them over to the Harness.

I don't know about the Hatch Release..I don't have that.

How do you hook up reverse lock out? I did the swap last year but I never hooked it up. My car is a 98 btw.

Take the Reverse Lockout Connector and lay it next to the VSS Connector(the wiring is about the same length). Take one of the wires from the Connector and connect it to PCM RED #42(1998 LS1 F-body). Take the other wire and connect it to 12v power. This will make the Reverse Lockout function like it's factory when the Car is tuned for it.

OK thanks. When I did the swap I used a M6 pcm, so when I hook it up do I still have to tune for it to function correctly?
