Default My son's AWD Eagle Talon Drag car

The car has gone 9.41 @ 151mph. We've done a lot of work to it since then. Some of the guys he deals with say the car should go 8's. This is all new to me. I'm 68 yrs old and have been building drag cars since the 60's. I've had a few blown cars over the years. But I've never built an import car like this.
I don't perticularly like working on the Eagle but my son seems to have a nac for them. He's had 7 or 8 of them over the years. Pretty fast little cars.

I used to have one of them and would still like to get another one. Those little things are no joke when you start building them. Got any specs on the car?

Friend of mine has one with a turbo bigger than your head. And another has one with the stock turbo, cam and head work, and he is in the twelves. You're not shitting, these things are no joke. But it seems like they're only driving them every other week as something is ALWAYS breaking on them. And i'll stick with my good 'ol cammed f-body sound

hahaha, yeah I break his balls for that. Now he's got a collection of transfer cases because the guy that builds his cases is down on production until spring. With the power the car is making he goes through cases like he changes his drawers.
As far as specs go,I'll let him post those up. I know the car made 800hp at the wheels a few years ago. It has'nt seen a dyno yet but it's got to be making close to a thousand hp. The car was tuned on nearly 50lbs. of boost.
I can tell you that the turbo is a Garrett GT42. It's also roughly the size of your head. When it came in the mail the box said it was 48lbs.
I'll let him post a few pictures.

Here are a few pictures from the build. He's making some new piping for it. Can you believe this thing has a 4 inch exhaust from the turbo to the front bumper.

I know he has reciepts that total $48,000. Not including the car and cage.

The Porsche belongs to a friend of his. It's not a turbo model. Amazingly though the car still turns out 12.50's. 385hp out of a naturally aspirated 6 cylinder is pretty darn impressive.

Absolutely! Only problem with these AWD car is that when you start producing decent power the gearboxes just can not take the abuse. He's gone through various gearboxes. Right now he runs a Shepherd Racing dogbox. It's a 4speed but the gears are very long. Close to 75mph out of first gear. The car has to be launched at pretty high rpm or it bogs. I think he has his 2 step set to 7,500 rpm's. Shifts around 10,000.

why doesn't he just do the Auto swap? much easier on shifts and it would last a lot longer

I told him he should have gone auto. He spent a total of $8,000 on the gearbox he has now. $6,000 for the PPG gearset and another $2,000 on odds and ends. It's rated at 1,500 ft.lbs of tq. He likes the fact that he can do clutchless full throttle shift. We put a squiggly cord button on the wheel to interupt ignition for the shifts. I've driven the car and I personaly like to use the clutch when I shift, but I have to admit he's pretty quick and precise on his shifts.
I'll tell you what though. The car leaves the line hard if you get the boost up high enough. I keep telling him to launch on the bottle but I guess he's nervous with the factory transfer cases. He gets roughly 20 full passes on an OEM transfer case. He has a few left but he's trying to make them last until the spring when he can get the Shepherd transfer case. I told him to put it away for the winter but he's determined to work the bugs out this year.

Very nice car. Nice choice in going with the sheperd dogbox though. That trans held up to numerous 7 second passes in shep's personal talon. If you think though 7500 is crazy, shep use to anti-lag the his drag talon to 9 grand or so. And shift about the same rpm you guys are now.

Are you guys running a traditional 2-step or using anti-lag to leave at full boost?
