The term they don't build them like they used to...I guess they are right. Keep an eye on the passenger compartments.

thats insane, i know they made extreme chassis improvements with crumple zones and what not, but i figured just the sheer mass of an older car like that would have destroyed the newer car...guess i was wrong lol.

Yes, modern cars are designed to spread an offset impact like that across the entire front of the vehicle. The Bel Air not so much. I will have to snap some pics of one of our squad cars (08 Charger) that was involved in a bad crash. It will blow your mind what that car looks like compared to how its driver made out. I don't have any data to back this up other than personal wrecks that I have worked. The Mercedes M Class and the Chevy/GMC Tahoe/Yukon have handled front end crashes at speed better than anything I have seen. Not to mention one of the new Chargers I will get some pics of soon. Cars today will total out, but damn that is a small price to pay for walking away.
