I just deleted my EGR and air on my Z. Then I was doing the plugs and wires on it ( much easier w/o air inj ) When I got to the last plug on pass side . What a PIA ! What was GM thinking when put the fire wall so damn close to the engine ? Going to cheat a little and do the last plug at work on the lift .
I know what you mean... i did mine about 3 months ago. I had to take the valve cover off. It made it alot easier without all the coil packs in the way.

Or you can jack it up and get at it from the bottom. I had to loosen it last time I changed it like that, gf got it most of the way back in (small arms). Did emissions delete since then so hopefully it will be easier.

LS1 cars are a piece of cake, try a LT1 car if you really want a challenge.
what he said. And if you have LT headers, going from underneath for that last plug on the LS1 is cake. I've never had to remove coil packs. On my car I got rid of the A/C and EGR so it's pretty fucking simple lol. I did my buddy's ss with full a/c tho and still did it within 30 minutes (all of them).
much easier with LT's form under. i removed the plugs on my car the other day with coil packs and valve covers removed (i was changing valve springs) it was alot easier for some reason it took me like 20 minutes to remove all the plugs.

20 minutes ?? Thats pretty good . The 1st 7 plugs were pretty easy . I didnt try the last one yet . I ran out of time . No LT's yet Just figured I would change the O.E. plugs and wires at 96K before I go for a tune .

well this is my 2nd time doing it. the first time i did it (no LT's) we dropped the #8 plug, i had to go get a new one. if im not mistaken we were doing it with the coil packs. i dident want to remove the plugs when i was doing the valve springs but since i was using the TDC method the motor would barely turn so i started doing the plugs. i was surprised at how easy it was with no coil packs or valve cover. make sure you use anti seize on the threads of the new plugs
btw i did this all from the top including #8

GM was thinking about a new engine design that would last for the next 50 years and wanted everything interchangeable so unidirectional heads go on.
Like said remove coil packs and take your time. Some do need to be done from the bottom.
I've owned quite a few LT1's and those absolutely suck. I was in love when I saw evenly distributed intake and exhaust.

GM was thinking that those plugs are supposed to last well past the warranty, and changing them would be YOUR problem, not GM's-

How did the plugs look?
I need to change them on my '02 car. I'm also at 96k, and this is the longest I've had any LS1 car without doing a plug change. Just wondering how bad they look at that mileage, on average.

They didnt look too bad . The electrode was a was a little worn and the gap was bigger than its supposed to be .

I may be mistaken, but.....
Didn't they set the engine back further in the engine
bay to improve weight distribution & improve handling?
Changing the spark plugs is about the only thing I miss
about my old Integra.
