Mine would be buying the 80 series flowmaster instead of GMMG or True Duals.
I've had my car now for 6 months and read stuff about it and the LS1 powerhouse/modifications and parts religiously. I still have no idea what GMMG stands for. So...could you please shed a little light?

Much thanks to you man. I feel so much better knowing what it is. I knew it was exhaust just not exactly what type and what it was all about. With as much research as I've done I feel quite lazy considering the thought that I never even typed GMMG into a search engine. Anyway, that exhaust sounds awesome, nice and growling low. Just a little loud and speak about needing deep pockets. I think I'll stick with my $450 Magnaflow system. How well does the GMMG flow?
Only real newbie mod mistake I ever did was try cutting that damn egr tube. I stripped the helicoil right out and bent the tube 1000 different ways and leaked all the time. I am planning on just getting rid of it when I get my headers.
-Granatelli MAF (tuner had hard time with it)
-Diablo Predator (useless in my hands- Ls1Edit used to tune PCM).
-Paying some Pepe down the block to install 4.10 gears WRONG!
-Paying a Speed Shop again to have a new set of 4.10s installed CORRECTLY.
-Paying same Speed Shop to do my first cam swap (did not know about LS1howto.comback then).
-SLP headers instead of KOOKs.
-Swapping stock muffler out for an aftermarket splitcase muffler (should have gone with a full 3" catback) *Note: glad that I did not, as the frustration led to 3" True Duals (love the duals).
I coulda saved THOUSANDS! Learn from my mistakes!
Start off with (1) Cutout and (2) Drag Radials!!!!!!!

going with duals
funny how the redneck shop out in the middle of shitpie county managed to have a mandrel bender but no collector things
yep, they welded the pipes straight to my headers and welded pieces of metal from my Xpipe to the torque arm, like a hanger
real smart them guys were
buying a Whisper Lid. POS! doesnt fit right . If i would of found out about ls1tech sooner probably would of gotten and mti lid.
Yeah, like others said - this site has helped me out tons. I've researched everything I've bought to date using this board and have come up with some really good equipment IMO:
Corsa cat-back
MTI lid
TR224
FLP headers ORY
TA girdle (yeah I know... "save for a 12-bolt"...)

Thats what I did (1) Lid (2) Cutout (3) Shiftlight (4) BFGs. Slow and steady. Thanks all you guys. You saved me lots. I've learnded so much from this site too.
I would have to agree with buying an all optioned car with ext. warrenty. I like the WS6 package but it makes me think that I could of just bought the aftermarket hood, wheels, suspension and exhaust and saved.
firstly - this post is probably the MOST helpful post i've yet to read on this board for a noob (which i clearly am).
and hell, would it make any of you guys feel better if you knew i dumped about 4-5k worth of performance parts into a 1997 3.8 liter camaro? and only to run a best of 14.7!?!?! WHAT THE HELL WAS I ON, RIGHT?!?!?
and it's no joke either. fortunately, i told myself i'd be different with the ls1 in many aspects, like:
a. wouldn't mod nearly as much, especially not the performance, because...
b. it's a hell of a lot faster than my old 14.7 second v6!
so far i have done a cutout ($40), a lid ($35), a short stick (free), sfc ($100), and a drop ($400 total). i feel i'm doing pretty good thus far.
thanks to you guys i'm not ever tackling any of those silly damn free mods either!
another thing for me is i would of gone duals over my Y/magnaflow setup first. got my whole dual setup for what it cost me for my brand new magnaflows :\
I've had some problems with the GMAF so far - SES light won't go out. From all the things I've read, messing with the MAF is not going to get you much (if anything)....
Oh I have a couple of good ones... two of my first mods for my car when I bought it was a Holley Powershot, SLP Y-Pipe and a Flowmaster 80 series muffler. I also took my car in for oil changes at the dealership the first couple of times.
Since, I've rectified those problems by purchasing Pacesetter LTs with ORY, and a cutout welded into the i-pipe. I also use Fram paper filters and sold the Powershot. Oh, and I ALWAYS do my own oil changes, oil/fuel filter changes, brake pads, rear end fluid changes, etc, etc. on my own. It's amazing how easy this stuff is if you just take the time and get the tools for it!
