Default ARP Bolts or Head Studs?

Hey guys,

I did some searching and found a couple guys saying heads for 250 shot.

I have an HKE built 347, with rings gapped for 150 shot. I'm using AFR's again with a stock thickness Cometic gaskets.

From my last setup, I have ARP head bolts.

My question is, will the ARP head bolts be enough to hold down a 150 shot? The last thing I want to do is push water so if you think head studs are the way to go, let me know.

Thanks

No. I went with head studs on a stock engine. They are reusable and hold MUCH better.

I went with bolts just to keep things simple, I'd imagine the studs are better, but are they really necessary? I head of people spraying 200 shots on stock head bolts. So I'd think the arp's would hold on anything not much bigger. The bolts are reusable too, I think the studs would be needed for a much bigger horsepower car with forced induction. But bolts would be fine for a not so extreme build.

I like studs because you don't run as much of a risk of pulling the treads out of the block.

Yes they are neccessary....why spend all that money on building an engine then cheap out at the end? Of course people have ran bolts and been okay..but is it really worth saving 100$ now and risking your engine down the road? I went with them now and I dont even need them..its just an extra piece of mind..and its worth the extra 100$

+1 to that. I am not even running a bottle yet and not considering blowing my new motor over the simple fact of a little extra money and reassurance. That's like putting a big cam in a car and leaving the stock lifters with 60-70k on them. Would they work yes, but how long will they last and what happens if you want to up the shot in the near future... Always plan long term and not what you just need now. That is more of a budget build instead of wasting money on something you may swap out to later on anyway. Makes sense you know.
