I have a 07 LS2 Vette with just bolt ons and a 150 shot. I have a HSWs kit.
I understand I have to retard the timing 6 degrees. Where I get confused is,
some guys with the same set up run 29 degrees of timing or more. If im in the 23 25 range do I still have to retard the timing 6 degrees?? I would think not, Ive been wrong before.
My other question is
On the HSWs site it says the interface uses the IAT spark table to retard the timing. If thats so, Why cant I just change that part of the tune and be done with it?? If im running in the 23-25 degrees of timing area I should be fine with the TR6 plugs or am I missing something???
Thanks in advance!!!

I use the timing tricker (resistor mod) thats wired into my IAT. Its setup to pull 7* so when the system is on i'm at 21* of timing and 28* with the it off.

U used something like HPtuners to modify the tabels tho right?....no way a resistor mod alone can pull 7 degrees.

If it helps any im runnin a 75 shot on 25 degrees.
Ok so what timing do you run without the spray? So we can see the difference. I think this will help everyone see where we are and where we should be.
I would love to see some vendors and pros step in and keep us straight!!!

On the LS1's i think some people get away with pulling 0 timing up 50 shot AT MOST. However, with a 100-125 shot, I've heard you can pull atleast 3*, then 1* per additional 25-shot. But thats just a very generic rule of thumb.
What you need is a wideband so you can watch your A/F, then use your HP tuner to add timing until you start seeing knock, then back off 1* IMO. But your about where you need to be, you might be seeing knock 3-4* of timing, +1 for safety, 6* isnt bad for a 150 i dont think...
Also, doing the IAT mod does not pull any timing, its all in the setup on HPTuners

IAT mod DOES pull timing as i have verified by logging some runs with my buddys HPtuners....it just doesnt pull more than like 3* i beleive.

Ok so with a 75 shot on a LS1 your running at 25* and NA at 27* This should
be verified by HP Tuners or the like, and or a pro tuner to be sure there is No knock!!!!
Thanks you! I hope this helps everyone understand this a little better.
I would like to see a chart with what timing to run with a certain shot.
IMHO I think just pulling 6* for a 150 shot is a bit vague, may even get people into trouble. I guess thats why Robert56 and others say get it tuned!
Thanks for the replies.
I would love to see HSWs, Robert56, Nitrous Dave, and others chime in on the bigger shots
Thanks again fellas

Wait, so if im on stock timing (17 I believe) I can up it? I thought you pull timing from stock?
Is your car stock? My car N/A when I tuned it it seems the best and not getting any knock at 28 deg. I put a 100 shot through nano on my car which is a little more. I took 6-8 degrees out just to be safe since I am new to all this nitrous stuff

I have a cai and gutted cats so yes im stock. Before I put the nitrous in i had my timing upped to 27. After my nitrous is in im on the stock tune. It is 17 degrees i think.
If you are running 25 degrees of total timing N/A, then pull 6 degrees with a 150 shot. You should be at 19 degrees when you spray it. This is were you should start.
You can take the timing out through the HSW box by using the switches,
Most ls2 vettes run around 21-23 degrees total timing N/A.
Most F-bodies run around 25-28 degrees total timing N/A.
You should always get your car dailed in N/A first, then get it dialed in for the N20.
With the interface you can pull up to 9 degrees of timing right out of the box. How much timing you need to pull will be up to your car. As RPM noted above, 19 degrees of timing will be a good starting point. Always start on the conservative side, from there you can start adding back one degree at a time. If you ever need more then 9 degrees then you can go into the IAT spark table and change the values.
TR6 should be ok for your setup. If you want a little safer plug you could use a non-projected tip heat range 7.
