Default Using Methanol as fuel for nitrous?

Thoughts?

I've been tossing around some ideas to make my GN a lil different. I've been wanting to try something new to me that will keep it interesting for me. This is just an idea that crossed my mind this morning. It would be off a dedicated cell just for the nethanol. I am talking real fuel, not blue water + heet lol.

Any thoughts? Is it just a bad idea?

Will,

Its always been a tough sell. Reason being a jet change is cheaper than setting a system up for alcohol. Obviously there are benefits that supersede but in general most people aren't willing to commit to it. Shoot me a PM and we can discuss further if you'd like.

Will share this info with me on TA.net, I was thinking about the same thing yesterday. Since I run Meth on the Sy & Regal + I have a 55 gallon drum of Meth sitting around. I am planning on going with a stand alone system right after CTC before the Shootout on the SS so I don't have to upgrade my fuel system to when I up the hit on the SS. I was figuring that it would be nice to be able to run meth from the stand alone so that I would have the cooling effect from the meth & Nitrous. So pass anything you find out from HSW to me on TA.net.

When running methanol + nitrous (from the same nitrous nozzle), what should the ratio be? I have been told 3:1 and 1.9:1.....Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,

-Will

Nitrous to fuel ratios are based off of specific gravity of the fuel. Methanol has a specific gravity of .792 compared to .740 for gas @ 60*. To compensate we need a n/f ratio of 3:1. Now do not confuse that statement with some sort of formula where its a simple ratio to calculate jet sizes. We need to also understand that area and pressure play a vital role in determining jet sizes and or ratios. Once you're ready to calculate your jet spread just shoot me a PM and I'll get you a list. Or if I can ever get matt to figure out a way to get my calculator online I would gladly allow everyone to use it.

I do know its harder to read a alcohol plug. it cleans it more.... but there are very big gains that can be had.

Nitrous and alcohol work VERY well, but again, getting a handle on the tuneup is alot harder, because the plugs are alot harder to read. Alcohol burns alot colder too, so you can get away with alot more as well, but, thebad part is alcohol is a solvent, and you can wash the rings out of a motor really easy with it, then get oil in the combustion chambers, and once that happens nitrous + alcohol + oil is a bad bad combo. You'll hurt alot of parts with that for sure.

If you don't mind re-ringing a motor quite often, an alcohol/nitrous motor will for sure make big steam, but plan on alot more maintenance like re-ringing, and putting new bearings in too while you have it apart.

If you get the tune up right and you're actually burning it, then why would you have to worry about regularly changing rings?

Beacuse the methanol doesn't have any lubricating properties at all unlike regular gas/race fuel

Found out about what to do for that problem. They are a product called Marvel Mystery Oil you add it to the methanol.

No, it's an additive. You can use it in your fuel tank, oil, crankcase and in your meth. kit. ect. A friend of mine uses it in his 87 Grand National meth. kit. He said that when he bought the kit that they told him to put that in with his meth. Just for that reason. I contacted MMO to confrim that and they also said yes to it. That it has many different uses. My friend has been running it with his meth kit now for a long time. I didn't even know that he used it. Until I was asking questions about it.
