yeah all GM vehicles have a 6yr, 100,000 mile "RUST THROUGH" paint warranty notice it states "RUST THROUGH." I spoke with the service manager at my dealership and he asked me to bring the car by. He's going to take a look at it and tell me if he thinks it'l be covered under warranty. He also stated that the regional rep might have to make the call on whether it will be covered. Heh...if it's not covered, that dealership will never have my business again. Like that matters anyway...my next car will be a vette lol. Oh...if i remember, when i get home from work, i'll try and take a pic.

The bubbles first appeared on my 99 about a year ago. There are more bubbles now and some of them are ozzing. I will post some pictures tomorrow when I get home if no one has any posted. I have a copy of the TSB and will call the dealer and see what they say. I should have called a year ago but since the warrenty was up I didn't call. Its looking pretty bad now.

Thats exactly what mine looks like, except in the Texas heat the bubbles pop and ooze clearcoat (or whatever it is).

I guess I am screwed on the warranty though, since I don't have the original odometer in my Camaro (V6 to LS1 swap).

mine is messed up but my warrenty went out before they started showing up. The place I work for is owned by a dealership so I might make a few calls and see what I can work out

well if this post stays alive, i'll let everyone know how i make out when i stop by the dealership on Sat. That's the first chance i'll have to get it looked at. Sucky thing is that my car never sees rain etc... it's only driven on nice weekends. Heck, i'd love to hear their excuse..."We can't warranty the paint, you've modded your car with a turbo, and that voids all warranties" lol Yeah, that would be BS, but you have to love dealerships.

what is your car number for the guy with the 98 WS6? OR when was the build date.

my early #370 ws6 has no such bubbles, but a few friends 99-02 cars suffer from this, that is the first 98 car i have heard effected by it.

the service bulletin is Document ID# 1283933. I am the second owner of an '01 SS with low miles (approx. 28K) i got the service bulletin printed out at a local chevy dealer and the phone # to chevy (1-800-222-1020) and spoke with customer service. they had me take it to a chevy body shop for inspection. since the warranty did not transfer (to many mods on car) they offered to fix the problem with a $300.00 deductible. (better than nothing)
SS goes in next week

the bubbly wavys are about an inch in from the edge of the t tops and goes all the way across the top of the pannel. then i have 3 pretty small bubbles on the passenger side, towards the back part of the pannel. the drivers side is currently fine. i'm gonna try and run by one of the dealership bodyshops tomorrow and see what they say, i'll keep yall updated.

We just had that problem fixed on our 01 Z. It was not done under warranty being that the car has 88k on it. We paid $100 and GM covered the rest. We contacted GM about it and had it fixed shortly after. Just email GM and bitch about it, then a local dealership will call ya. That's how it worked for us anyways.

just got back from the dealership. The service manager was aware of the problem before i even shown it to him. He didnt check the mileage or anything, just gave me the 'nod' and said he'll order the parts, paint it and tell me when it's ready for me to bring the car in. I asked him about mileage and he said it didn't matter, they'd replace it.

I just went in to the chevy dealership here in Palm Bay yesterday. Spoke with the head of the warranty department for the dealership. They called me today to tell me they got the work approved to replace the sail panel free of charge. They're ordering the part and will call when I need to bring it in. FYI i'm not the original owner either.

Word of advice don't just talk to a tech rep guy. Last dealership i went to i did that and he said he couldn't do anything. Ask for the head of the warranty department, he'll make a call and hopefully get your work approved.

that's how it should be. milage has no effect on it, its just age/heat related.

Okay guys, get this. I have these bubbles and wavy lines across the top of my car too, but I also have this same problem on my hood. On the sides of the ram air scoops near the rear there are places where the paint is almost brown, like it did not get covered good. Ant I have a couple of these bubbles in the clearcoat there, too! Anyone else seen this? It is sometimes hard to see, unless you are in direct sinlight. Headed to the dealership right now. Got about four in the area, so gonna check 'em till someone says "we will do it for free!"
