another here, I liked the feature of the Formula compared to the T/A. A little lighter, and most dumb ricers (as compared to smart ricers?) that see my single exhaust pipe think it's a 6-cylinder.

My single exhaust is due to my STS kit exiting thru a 3 inch ID glass-pack!
I had a black 1988 Formula 350 with the WS6 package. It was missing the "Formula 350" decals on the door, so it was kind of a sleeper.
I use to love how the modified MacPherson strut handled in the corners. The engine had a nice low rumble, and mine had different wheel offsets with the factory rims. That always confused the hell out of tire places, even when I told them that the rims were specific for the front and back. Even though it was not a T/A, everyone called that car K.I.T.T.
I only had a few issues with that car. The dash around the radio was falling apart, so I had to rig it when I put in a new radio. The rear shade in the hatch was broken, and I never found a glue that would fix that plastic. I also had a strange electrical issue where the alternator would just burn out without warning after 6 to 9 months. I could never find a mechanic who could fix it; even the local Pontiac dealer could not fix it. I eventually got an alternator with a lifetime warranty from the local auto parts store and just swapped it out myself.
I eventually sold the car to a friend when I bought a new black 1996 Trans Am. The dealer offered me nothing for the '88 Formula, so I did my friend a favor and sold him the car for the price of the dealer's trade in offer. I ended up replacing the 1996 T/A with a 2002 T/A with the Ram Air option.
I swear if I had the money back then I would have kept the '88 Formula. I also wish the Internet was as big as it is now, because I probably would have easily found replacement parts for those broken interior parts.
I just hope that some Firebird enthusiast now owns that old 3rd Gen Formula. It would really suck if it ended up in a junk yard.
i've had a red 92 automatic formy, still have a black 94 6spd formy , and now a 2002 pewter auto formy that i just bought saturday. the 2002 was a STEAL as i got it wrecked and the junkyard thought the motor was no good. happy early bday to me!!
I sold my LT1 Formula when I moved cross country to start my new job. That was three years ago and it killed me. My wife doesn't understand why I have a picture of it on my nightstand. I'm better now though because I bought an LS1 Formula last month. Original woman owner, 75,000 miles, and not a dam thing done to it. I told myself I was going to leave it alone. That lasted for a week. Formulas Forever!
