I think I read in an article that this "wasn't the G8." (In a manner that it would not be the same car in some aspect. I am not sure what was meant by that but who knows how different it will be since these aren't production photos.

Its hard to tell from the pics and the paint the light bar, but it sorta looks like similar body lines and proportions, just less aggressive (read cool looking).

IIRC i read somewhere that this is based on the caprice sold overseas which is a longer wheelbase version of the platform that the G8 was based on. so while it is similar it's a little bit larger car than the G8.

Hmmm, doesnt really sound like that bad of car. Thanks for the info. Too bad it looks a bit like a grampa car, especially with a name like Caprice.
I wouldn't tell that to my car, she might yell at you and do a burnout on your foot. Just sold my 95 6-speed caprice, but still have a 78 caprice with a lot more under the hood and a lot less on the inside.
I think those PPV's look mean, I sure wouldn't want to try to out run one of them. They're not going to be a slouch like those POS Crown Vic's

Yeah longer wheel base. Called the Holden Statesman in Oz where its made.
Same drivetrain etc.
Thanks for that info.
See, I don't get why they rebrand and rename all of this. They could saved money by not having to engineer new body panels and other supporting equipment (not talking about left hand drive reconfig) and just sell them as another brand at any GM dealership.
Plus, IMO more people would have been likely to try something new to the North American Market than yet another Pontiac. Even if the end product is the same people wouldn't see it that way.
The Aussie names are cooler as well.

Interior is VERY similar to the G8...in fact, the steering wheel, shifter, dash and instrument cluster are identical to those in the G8.
Holden engineers one fullsize car (VE is the current generation) then they make a bunch of variations of it.
Each variation is the same car underneath with the same interior and mostly the same body parts. Much the same way American manufacturers used to make fullsized cars in the 1950s and 1960s, much the same way Chrysler's LX cars are right now.
The Commodore (Omega, Calais, Sportwagon, SS, SS-V), Ute and long-wheelbase versions (Caprice, Statesman) are all the same car underneath (VE) and produced on the same line.
The Commodore was sold as the G8 here, the Caprice will be sold as the Chevrolet Caprice here.
G8 in cop disguise would be as simple and would look better. Dont how they hav to complicate their life sometimes since its pretty much the same car.
