First thing is, don't let others decide what's best for you. Manual transmissions aren't meant for everybody, regardless of your ability to drive them. I learned to drive with a manual, drove a manual school bus in high school, drove manual farm trucks on my father's farm, and owned a '64 Falcon sprint 4-speed as my first car. This was in the seventies.
The next manual I owned was a 2005 GTO. While I could never find all the faults that seem to be prevelant, (the transmission and shifter seemed just fine to me), I could not gain the affection so abundantly bestowed upon manual transmissions. Chaulk it up as "to each his own". I love my autos and my only wish is that it were a six speed.
I think the concept of "fun" will vary greatly as well, so the "one size fit's all" may very well not apply. It's up to you. I own an '04 and an '06, both A4s, and that's by choice. In fact, the only thing that kept me out of the last gen CTSV was the manual-only.
Ive been looking around for a 6spd GTO 04-06 and all im finding in my area are autos, are they really that bad? everyone ive talked to has said not to get an auto. But i want one so bad i might just settle for one.. Do you guys think if would matter at all?
In terms of it would matter it's all about what type of driver you are and where you do alot of your driving. With a little money you can make an GTO auto a beast that makes it hard to beat in "bracket racing at the track". Also the GTO auto doesn't have as bad of a wheel hop problem when launching as the M6. Still I understand you can't top rowing through gears especially when on the highway.
I have a LS1 GTO A4 and after full exhaust, cai, and a dyno tune it's at the LS2 level(339 rwhp-355 rwtq). The GTO A4 with a tune to delete torque managment wakes up big time. I would say drive both and see what "feels" right.
Has anyone on here converted a 4l60E equipped GTO to use a 6L80E? Seems like the 05-06 cars might have a chance at that, if the computer can be configured to accept the external TCM of the 6L80E. Then you can have closer to the best of both worlds!

Question: "Will Buick seek to add white, plastic floor mat zip-ties in a bid to look more like Lexus?"
Aside from the cag I love the m-6. That will be rectified soon(cag). Remember the m-6 was an option. For a daily driver and doing the twisties a m-6 is a lot more fun IMO.
I know I cant stand the dreaded torque mgt. in my A4 so that was my primary reason for buying a Predator handheld. Oh, what a difference and being able to change the shift points and pressures made that move an added bonus.

I have been thinking about selling my A4 and getting an M6 eventually, but after reading this thread and about the difference with a stall, I'm not sure. I just get kind of bored with an A4 not to mention the M6 is quicker from a roll.

But when and if you do find one they want 18K or more for it. Im def getting one in blue or silver but will wait till next winter for the prices to drop some more.
I am looking at a 2004 Quicksilver GTO,bonestock A4,with 51 k miles for a daily driver.Just how bad will the gas mileage be combined city/highway driving? What would be a good price for it?

That's about a 10 grand (plus or minus) wholesale car, 11+ grand private party sale and maybe 12,500 dealer retail
