Default GTO vs. 4th Gen?

How does the GTO stack up to a 4th Gen LS1? I know their about 200 lbs heavier. Other than that pro's, and cons would be appreciated. Feed back from owners that actually made the switch would be greatly appreciated!

Well the 04 would be slowier since it has the ls1. Not sure about the 05-06 with the ls2.

I think the ls2 gtos are a drivers race the gto would probebly edge a f body on a roll but the gtos are more confurtable i was test driving both a 05 gto and 02 trans am i ended up geting the trans am cause i love the way they look. But i think the gtos look pretty dam good themselves!

Subject has been beat to death. Hate to say it, but try a search. Really, it could go either way with an 05-06 GTO.

I had a 3rd gen and my buddy had a 4th gen and I personally wouldnt go back to an Fbody but like the guy above said just scroll back a couple pages or search theres a thread on people that switched from fbody's to gto's and it runs like 6 pages deep so check that out.

They run about the same for the M6. GTO is heavier but the gearing is better to make it up. The A4 GTO's were a lot slower because of torque management.

No disrespect to you 04 GTO guys, but I just can't see how gearing would make up for the additional weight. How can an LS1 GTO be faster than a 4th Gen, when it is generally accepted that a ls2 GTO vs a 4th Gen is a drivers race? It doesn't add up.

You are such a bad ass. I can't think of any 4th gens that could keep up with that baby cam monster you have there.

My dad has an 01 WS6 an I have an 06 GTO. It's a drivers race between us, goes either way. Both are M6 cars with cat-backs.

The two cars where built for two different purposes so comparing them beyond that is pointless. Much like saying should I buy a GTO or G8? Well what do you want? Go test drive the two cars and the differences will become immediately apparent.

the M6 would have beat you then. they're at least .3 or so faster in the 1/4 than the A4s

GTO's are more comfortable, and overall nicer.... but a 4th gen is a better canidate for a drag car. I have both, so no bias here.

First of all... 115mph? Since when is that fast?

Second of all, if someone asked me what car they should buy between an LS2 GTO, and a 4th gen, guess what I would tell them. I would tell them the GTO is by far the better car.

And did you see the "4th Gen" in the title of this thread dumb ass? Quit being so cocky. If my car trapped 140mph I wouldn't go around rubbing it in peoples faces thinking that I was Billy bad ass.

+1

I have had both F-body and currently own a GTO... Goats are extremely great for modding and daily drivers and are fun for the track too. But the F-body has a greater performance parts selection at a cheaper price. Overall, you can make an F-body faster for cheaper. But if you want a comfortable, roomy, low 12's daily driver, the GTO is the way to go. I did enjoy my Formula though...

They run about the same, given the driver. The gearing does pretty much offset the weight. There are always going to be stripper F-Body's out there that will bust off a low 13/hi 12 but they are few and far between. Most '04 M6 cars run 13.3-13.5, some quicker and some slower. Just about the same for a F-Body.

Doesn't really matter, who has stock cars anyway?

Unbiased opinion here...

The GTO is a more refined/more comfortable car. It handles better and feels more "solid". The f-body is cheaper to mod has more of a muscle car feel. I personally love both cars but I prefer f-bodies. I just feel more comfortable in them (probaly because I've been driving 4th gens since I was 16). As a DD the GTO wins hands down, as a drag car the F-body wins hands down etc. etc. They are both awesome cars and really can't go wrong with either but they weren't built with the same things in mind so it's very difficult to compare them. Yeah an LS1 GTO may lose to an LS1 WS6 but the GTO will take it in the turns etc. etc.
