Is the GTO gone or is it going to be redone and come out again in a couple of years?????
What the OFFICIAL word from GM???????

I haven't heard it was going, or gone. I know the 2008 concept is ugly as sin though (posted pics of it a few times).

2006 was the last year of the current gto model. its is being redone due to stronger safety regulations by the government. so basically it was cheaper for them to start from scratch and design a whole new car, then to try and bring the current gto up to standards. lutz has said gto in 2008 (as an 09?). thats all the info I know.

There is no GTO concept.
Sure there's a bunch of drawings out there, but NONE are from GM.
No official word of a new GTO.
I think it's coming back eventually, but not till after Camaro.

But I havent seen any pics or concept just drawings as you already stated.

The Grand Prix or G8 should be at the autoshows this coming year to come out as a 08 model. That's not alot of time from the autoshows to production on the G8 but Pontiac has already said that the Grand Prix is dead after the 07 model. Maybe they will just let it be gone for a year or so. I don't think the GTO will return until after the Camaro so as to not still the thunder.

Yeah, Firebird hasn't ever been in the plans.
I originally thought that a new GTO was coming on the same chassis as Camaro (bigger car) however that's not happening either.

But have you noticed that while the Camaro prototypes are out there running, there has been NOTHING on the GTO from GM? ... no news, no renderings, certainly no prototype. My bet is that GM is going to let talk of the GTO fade away and die, that they're going to go ahead and bring the V8 Holden Commodore 4 door over here as the new G8/Grand Prix/whatever Pontiac performance leader, and if Camaro sales are through the roof (doubtful), they may consider a Firebird to give Pontiac dealers some of the action. I think the new GTO is dead.

I work at Saturn, and we all run off the same GM Launch site. The GTO is coming out redone. Chasis is different and it will have the 400hp LS2 engine. I actually have a picture on the Launch page. The GTO and Camaro will be ready to go at the same time, but GM doesnt want to take sales away from the Camaro. So expect to see the Camaro first (even though the GTO will be done before the Camaro). | |
