There are still many, MANY TA's on the road. . . when the numbers die off (give it 30 years), they'll be worth a LOT more...
As far as a NEW Birdie, I would LOVE one.. if it came out, i would probably buy it over the new Camaro. That being said: im not holding my breath, because the Maros look pretty badass... and we still havent heard anything from GM as far as a new release of our birds. We've only seen photoshops from ppl online, not even official GM pconcept sketches...

| I don't think they will, at least not right away. As mentioned before elsewhere, there isn't much of a business case for it. Not to mention Pontiac had to pay SCCA $5 royalty for each Trans Am sold for use of the name (or whatever the exact amount was).
I'm sure the Camaro is the test market vehicle for this segment. If it proves successful then I'll bet GM marketing will look for way to saturate and exploit the sales opportunities.
The other factor going against this is these cars were never a "bread and butter" car. always a niche market. Limited sales, not profit leaders, etc. GM is in business to make $$, so they will cater to what sells most and makes them the most money. That's why the lots are filled with big suv's, crossovers and eventually hybrids and the like.
my thoughts...

Barrett-Jackson is ABSOLUTELY NO guage for muscle car prices. That is just a bunch of rich guys with more money than they know what to do with....NO car is worth the money some of the cars at that auction get.

| How it is...I think
Here's my theory. It might be wrong, and you guys can get pissed off at me for it, but it's just how I think.
F-body sales died down in the U.S., so GM made a last-ditch effort to save them. That's where the Ram Air and anniversary additions came into play. Then, they cancelled the Camaro and Firebird, because the ricers just got WAY too popular (people have some messed up views of what a REAL car is, so they buy from Japan). And let's not forget, the Mustang is a lot cheaper can and there were more of them produced in the early years, so that's what teenagers want these days...not saying it's right, just saying it's true (I was one not long ago and all my friends wanted mustangs). So, GM needed to completely redesign one of the F-body cars and come out with something a little "out there" that would grab everybody's attention. Since the Camaro was the more popular, even though I hate admitting it, it was chosen as the flagship car. So, GM wants to see if the 'Maro will sell good, and then they can make a "bird" if they think it will be profittable. You guys would not believe how much money is spent on making a new car. I don't have the exact numbers, but in most manufacturing companies, the actual cost of materials and labor is a very small fraction of the total cost per car, in comparison to the numerous other costs. I wouldn't expect to see the "bird" for another 5 years, but if you're in your 30's, I would NOT bet against the bird making a comeback just in time for your mid-life crisis. Basically, GM wouldn't be able to keep that a secret if it was coming out before 2012 or so.
Sorry if I made you read too much, but I thought I might be able to add something to the conversation. And if you have a difference of opinion, that's great and it adds something to the topic, but don't get all defensive because I see things differently than you do. |

GM made a lot of money off the Firebird in the late '70s, and the 1980s was the best selling and poorest performing years for the F-body. GM came out with a great product in 1998, but didn't give the F-body a chance before killing it. The first time I saw the 1998 T/A I wanted one. I think if GM gave the Firebird a chance with the right engine options and marketing they could have a great selling product. Look at the Civic, the only reason kids bought the is because of marketing. i.e. "Fast and the Furious"

| If the camaro sells I think we will see a new T/A. I wouldn't be surprised if GM made a GTO and T/A concept and built the one that got more interest. Bottom line is that Pontiac will have a perfromance coupe by 2011 and firebied fans have made enough noise for GM to at least consider a return. |

| I say if it looks good hopefully they do it, anything else just brings down previous models(and the TA went out on an excellent foot, I dont think It could have looked much better). But sports cars dont sell, compacts and minivans sell
