Default The Bandit Lives!

http://www.yearone.com/news.asp?nsl=...dp.asp?AID=135

Quote:
YearOne and Burt Reynolds Build a New Bandit

Thirty years ago, a relatively low-budget movie starring an ex-Florida State football player, a country singer, a comedic legend and a black-and-gold Trans Am swept the country. Smokey & The Bandit played a huge role in a number of areas, not the least of which were catapulting Burt Reynolds to stardom and resulting in record-breaking sales for Pontiac's Trans Am.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of this milestone movie, and the car that powered it, YearOne and Burt Reynolds are teaming up to build a very limited number of special Trans Ams - all black and gold, of course. Instead of simply restoring original cars to their original specification, the YearOne Bandit cars will be completely modernized both stylistically and mechanically.

The YearOne design team, working with input from Burt Reynolds, has come up with a look that both pays its respects to the original while updating key areas. Subtle body mods will include a cleaner integration of the iconic wheel flares into the body, flush-mounted glass, updated lighting and a modernized graphic package.

Mechanically, the cars will be available in three different stages, ranging from high-performance to mind-blowing. Power will include traditional Pontiac V8s ranging in output from 400+ to 700+, along with a modern LS7 (from the current Z06 Corvette) making 600+ horsepower. Modern overdrive transmissions will be offered, as will various suspension variations.

More details on the cars will be made available soon, along with images of the prototypes and specifics on powertrains, options and pricing. But we wanted to give you a little teaser about the project here. Stay tuned for more info!

However, look on the bright side. If this car sells crazy and fast. GM will probably see people want the Firebird again and that can only mean good things for us!

True. I just hope this doesn't start a trend with '77 & '78 Trans Ams the way the '67 & '68 Mustangs have....getting bought up by companies for "series" cars and therefore making the prices for them soar.

Are you referring to the gone in sixty seconds remake and the Eleanor of that movie?

Ah I see.

Anyways I like your sig, pretty cool. I was rooting so hard for Peyton Manning, I really really hate the Patriots. I just turned off the TV after they picked off Manning in the 2nd quarter.

Anyways, I predict Colt 24 Bears 14

I would hate to see the price skyrocket on the "bandit" cars. I always wanted one and I hope one day when I marry a beautiful doctor I could get one to go along side my two LS1's and my LS1 swapped third gen GTA. I want to see what they do with this car, the lines are awesome and I really liked the elenor mustang.

Sorry to see there are so many colts fans because we're about to see what happens when a bear screws a horse, haha Bears 27 Colts 17

Yea My dad had a 78 TA with the Black and Gold SE back in the early 80's, he sold it though because they couldnt afford me and the car

I always tell him aw man dad that could have been my car, you could have fed me less. HAHAHA

Anyways, Im so much a Colts fan, Im a diehard Cowboys fan, but I just would like to see Peyton Manning win one. Plus the Colts Offense is crazy good, and if their defense plays well again its going to be interesting. But all the Bears have is a good defense and an ok running game, but Rex Grossman is too unpredictable, he may do good he may be an interception machine. All I know its going to be a good super bowl for once. I was tired of seeing one team beat up on the other and I was tired of seeing Tom Brady holding up the Lombardi trophy. Hahhaa
