Default First the Solstice, now the Sky?

I unno, first thing that came to mind when I saw this pic was the Sky. Is it just me?

Audi R3 Roadster

And our schwank looking Saturn Sky

EDIT: Gah I hate this forum's lame inability to NOT be able to change thread titles. Especially when it has a typo! "now the Sky?".

LOL Thanks Octane!

Yea, that R3 isn't too shabby. I'm a big fan of the Sky. Saw one yesterday, same silver color.

At least someone is making a really extreme looking front end (besides F-bodies).

Think of it as a form of flattery . Audi is marketing to the group of people who secretly like the looks of the Solstice/Sky, but cannot bring themselves to spend less than $45K on a car, let alone buy an AMERICAN car...

Thanks Audi. Compliment accepted.

Now GM needs to put something extreme under the hoods of their roadsters to beat the pants off the Audi... can we say SC V6?

I have no problem as long as that 3000lb car has 300hp. A blown Buick V6 would work wonders. I know they used to offer those on the Pontiac Bonneville SSE. I think it was in the mid to upper 200's as far as hp goes. If they could add an aluminum block, then I think they would be doing very well.

Well I haven't seen numbers on the GXP Solstice, which is turbo'd, but I assume with a few small mods it's a screamer. Remember, Lingenfelter took a ECO-Tec motor, and with about 70% stock internals made 1000hp turbocharged. I can see those little motors taking 450hp no problem.

I heard they were going to bring the GN back, but looking at their future planned vehicles, I don't see anything coming like that. So I agree that a SC or TC V6 would be sweet. Sadly they're dropping the 3.8 in 08, so I think the new 3.3 (old but redone actually) would be the way to go. Like the same SC'd motor from the G6.

The Solstice and Sky have SO much potential, but GM is just dropping the ball :\ The Big 3 are getting things together going back to RWD and more HP even with gas prices, but theres much potential to be unlocked in most of these cars, that SHOULD be.

GM shouldnt be concerned with speed, but instead make the cars less expensive

i agree whats the point of making a great car for the average man if the average man can't afford that car or want an SUV or Truck.

Well the G8 is $25K. That's pretty nice for a 360~HP RWD car that has nice style and huge upgrade potential. The Sky is a bit more than the solstice, since it's a bit fancier, (Firebird compared to Camaro basically), but the GXP Solstice I think only runs $20K. I think it has 260HP turbo, and as I said, the EcoTec's are wicked little 4cyls. The ???? was such an easy car to get power from, and I hope the GXP Solstice is the same. I wouldn't be surprised if you could pull the vacuum line off the waste gate and the motor not even flinching with the extra boost.

The GXP Solstice is pretty damn fast. I just think it looks feminine, that is why I never drive it.

It costs more than 20K. The Speed Channel show Setup, said that it is supposed to be faster than the Porsche Boxster. Don't know if that is true. The show after all is sponsored by Pontiac.

Well, the Boxter, for a Porsche, is slow as hell. It's just the car alot of avg joes can own and brag they have a Porsche I wouldn't doubt it could beat it.

I notice you have a Solstice GXP (kind of lol being the wifes). Have you tried unhooking the waste gate and letting it rip full boost? Or making a valve to regulate the vacuum?

im sure the engine itself would be able to handle the extra boost, but you wouldnt want to just unhook the vacuum line because that will allow it to run unlimited boost and im sure the factory fuel/ignition system has a safety point to retard timing, and start cutting fuel.

Indeed, but factory computers today are pretty smart and while the fuel system might be lacking a bit, the computer could probably do pretty decent. I'd probably use the vacuum pressure regulator I made and add 3-5psi. Probably more along the lines of 3.

I remember my friends Turbo Brick (Volvo 740 GLE). That's what I was using this regulator on. It had wayyyy too much boost w/ the vacuum line off that it was blowing hoses lol It broke the boost recirculation valve. Before that I twas fun when I vented it to under the hood. Nothing is more hilarious than seeing a silver sedan pass by with a whistle and then a whoosh when you let off the gas. We laughed the whole time while driving it like that. Good times lol

The claim is 260 hp, but I saw one dyno straight from the showroom floor with 235 to the wheels. Sounds like GM did a little underrating.

The numbers are always flywheel unless it says bhp. But yes, losing 25hp is a bit much for a manual.
