Default Thread from GTO forum! A little TA Bashing...Very Interesting new GTO vs Trans AM

http://www.gtoforum.com/showthread.p...524#post122524

Here is the link. Basically the topic is about what car and driver published or is going to publish about a new GTO or (I hate when they say this word)Firebird, It should be Trans Am, and what will Pontiac make. But what is great are some of the responses. Its just kinda funny to see people of the same blood rip on the TA's. Just an interesting piece I thought I would put up.

Sincerely

Grand Prix

Replying puts me on the same level of stupidity as the T/A bashers, but hey they started it. So let me say that GTO guys who bash T/A's are just jealous because they drive a "deluxe" Cavalier. No Goat EVER, 60's to now, compares with the latest T/A in looks, so go chew on that...

Your Trans Am is still a Firebird, just like all the other Trans Ams '69-'02. Get used to it.

So do I count as a GTO guy, a Trans Am guy, or a Firebird guy?

The way I see it, in the next ten or more years there won't be anymore Pontiac with the way they are talking... They couldn't tell you what new they will have in the next year or even two for Pontiac, you got the G8... and... looks like it is starting to turn out how Olds did, it is happening with Buick as well. The "performance" divisions low end car doesn't even have a go fast trim model to it like the Cobalt SS and Ion Redline.

In the future I believe that you will see Cadillac appointed the luxury and performance division of GM at Pontiac's ending so that way GM has their match vs Toyota/Lexus and Nissan/Infiniti. I have seen more advertising for Cadillac and Chevrolet in the past year than I have ever seen in the pst 10 years for Pontiac or Buick, but GM complains their sales are slow. Just a hunch... but maybe people don't know about some of the cars that are out there they have to offer... just a remote guess...

As for styling between a 02 WS6 and a 06 GTO, I would take the WS6 everyday. The GTO as far as I am concerned is a larger 97 - 03 Grand Prix, don't know where the whole cavalier crap comes from.

Yes, the GTO's styling would've been an awesome Grand Prix design. I was a bit disappointed on the new GTO and the 98-02 Trans am is much sexier!!!

With the way all of this is unfolding, I have a very strong gut feeling that one day we'll all see the Pontiac Firebird/Trans Am make a comeback. You just wait and see...

And Btw, that pic in the article looks pretty fuckin nice!

Not to bash the GTO, but the general public is way more familiar with the Firebird/Trans Am brand than GTO. Even my mother, who took forever to learn the most basic things on the computer (ie. opening a folder or going to a web site) knows the term "Trans Am". Ask some average female on the street, and I'll bet more often than not they will have heard of a Firebird. I don't think the same can be expected if you ask them what a GTO is.

Ugh. I think I'm the only person on the planet that doesn't want that at all. Smokey & The Bandit was great in the 70's... but it's kinda played out. Nothing would make that car sell less than if they did that.

This would be a much better look if you were going retro.

Just square that off like the Camaro is... wouldn't take much, and it would look freakin badass.

I've noticed several comments talking bad about the GTO. I always hate to see this because there are some GTO owners on the site. Sure, I prefer my TA but maybe someone else likes the GTO a little better. Lets be kind to our fellow LSx owners.

I'd rock a LS2 Goat but I do LOVE the T/A WS6 better then the GTO's. They do look too much like a Grand Prix. I owned a '00 GTP and after i sold it i didn't want anything to do with them. I Respect all 4th Gens and LSx cars
