| Them Firebird blues...... How many people here look at the "Potential Pontiacs" section....this very section....EVERY DAY.....just to be dissapointed? Is anyone else insulted that the word "Potential" is even appliable? If GM is in the works, surely, by now there would be some kind of info. Im seriously starting to wonder if anything is going to happen at all. I think I may be suffering from PTSD after our tragic loss in 2002; and now, to compound the suffering, I am slowly loosing hope in the resurection of our beloved Birds.
IS THERE NOT A GOD!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
I need a Trans Am hug....

| They will wait to see if the Camaro is a success first before they put more money into the platform. I mean GTO is done after 3 years.. I am sure GM will be cautious of what they put their money in when it comes to sports cars. Given the mustang is leading the way. I see Mustangs EVERYWHERE now. And to think that could of been 03-04-05 Camaros and Birds. This thread would not even exist and neither would would all those homemade concepts

| I concur... I have an overwhelming sense of hopelessness. Please, please GM pull me out and bring back the 'bird. The Camaro is amazing, and if I ever have the money to buy one I guess will have to settle for it, but I would love to have a T/A instead... I hope that's not what they're banking on though, the fact that people will just settle for the Camaro when they really would love a Firebird. |

The Holden Monaro was due for a redesign. The thing that did surprise G.M. was that it's sales weren't slightly better. (IMHO the car was just misnamed. GTO was not a fitting name for what we got. Maybe Tempest or LeMans would have been more fitting.) And for decades now Mustangs are everywhere. Hell, the fox bodies are still everywhere. Can't swing a blown 10 bolt without hitting a damn Mustang. Ford won the sales race and G.M.'s f-bodys kicked their ass on the street for the last decade of f-body production. Now if G.M. can mix the two?? Produce a sales leader and a ass kicker.

| Yea, I'd love to see a new Bird but I'd consider an aftermarket kit to get one!

| You can take some comfort in that a new GTO is almost certainly dead. If there is going to be a new performance Pontiac, it will probably be a Firebird. But, as stated above, they'll wait and see how the new Camaro does in the marketplace first.
Crude/gas prices/economy/recession/green fanaticism will decide the issue. The V6 Camaro has to get excellent gas mileage if the car is to succeed. If it does, we may see a 'Bird a couple of years later.

| I think eventually there will be a bird. There's a ton of people out there looking for a good alternative to, "a dime a dozen" Mustangs. Basically there's no competition for a classic muscle car. So, the Camaro will come out strong in new sales. Then at some point down the road GM will get greedy and stupid, as always. They'll tweak the Camaro, like they did for 30+ years and VOILA! I'll finally have my new car! |

| I think I'm one of the few that would actually not like to see the Firebird come back... The GTO was a great car, but publishers scrutinized the car before it ever had a solid chance. Ask any GTO owner that previously owned an F-Body, and I'd venture the bet that most of them would choose the GTO. There was no other car in any other market that could get you reasonable close to 400hp with the refinements found on the GTO for the price.
Another aspect of this argument is that Pontiac already "ruined" the GTO nameplate. It really has no place to go but up. The "Firebird" nameplate, if it comes back out, has the potential to lose its luster, just like GTO. The name has certain expectations, some of which will not be met with enthusiasts who consider their beliefs "pure". I don't think "Camaro" twins will work anymore. Their sales were down, despite superior performance (Maybe the Mustang does so well because Mercury and Lincoln don't share variants?). I'd be personally sick if Pontiac got the "Camaro" and just put a Firebird emblem on it, which most likely will be the case...after-all, GM is the king of "badge engineering." I say bring back the GTO. It will allow Pontiac and Chevy to differentiate what each company is selling on their showrooms because each name has certain connotations that will allow each car to be distinctively different.

| I won't comment on the GTO too much because I don't have an interest in it, except to say that I wasn't too impressed with the new appearance. I had higher hopes for the GTO namesake.
As far as rebadging the Camaro, does it suck, overall, yes. Does it seem a possibility with GM's history, yes. Would I buy a rebadged and slightly reappearanced Camaro, yes. The photochopped Camaro's with the bandit T/A paint and graphics still look bad ass.
Overall, I have always loved the appearance of the T/A's despite both of them being mechanical clones, and I've owned both. While I would prefer a totally non Camaro based T/A, I would take what I could get. It's been done for over 30 years already, so what. |

| I also wish that GM would bring back the Trans AM. I can't see trading in my T/A for anything else...okay well maybe a corvette.

| Well, of course it would have to be a Z06. I have had my T/A since 2001 and I love it. I hate to even think about trading it in. He has brought me home for a lot of years so I feel a special bond with this car. I would love to keep my T/A forever. In my opinion, they look a hell of alot better than the camaro. But when I saw the concept camaro with the firebird emblem on the hood, I got goosebumps!

| Say the same thing, while I'll probably get a new Camaro, I still wish there was a bird still around. Hell I wish GM had just spend some money and done some major changes to the Camaro and Firebird, find a way to lessen the cost, or just update the body.
People buy hordes of V6 Mustangs, just because they look cool and are stamped with the word "Mustang". If GM had just done some routine body changes (not just the hood and fenders, a real body and interior change), like every other car gets every 3-4 years, we'd probably have F-Bodies being built

| Yeah it sucks really bad. I like Camaro's and would get one if a bird isn't resurrected but my one true love is the Trans Am. They just have a mystique to them. I won't get my hopes up but if they ever decided to bring it back I would be at the bank the same day the announcement was made cause nothing gives me goosebumps like a badass trans am (other than my fiance). |

Trans Am we've had some great times, I'll miss you, but it's for the best. The new camaro is my future, Trans Am was the past. Good night sweet prince. |
