dude... pontiac isn't going anywhere.
the g6's are just too cool looking of family cars.
and g5's are just what the ricers of america have always wanted. a dirt cheap 4-banger made by a us company. they do look nice in their own way though.

gm's not going to ditch the best fuel-economy, regular sized cars they have (g5 and g6), just to let somebody else outsell them with them.
but that would be terrible, i agree

Seems Buick would be better to pull the plug on than Pontiac.

Pulling the plug on GMC would also make since.

The last nail in the coffin of the brand was the death and lack of resurrection of the Firebird. GM is positioning Pontiac for the chopping block after decades of embarrassing mismanagement.

What is there to miss? It's a shell of it's glory days and sells absolutely nothing worth mourning.

I honestly dont see them getting rid of Pontiac over GMC. GMC sells only trucks and SUVs which are on a steady decline in sales due to high gas prices so it only makes sense to drop GMC.

It appears that Roger Wagnor has lost his vote of confidence from the stock holders . If anything is being positioned for the chopping block its HIM ! Lutz is being groomed for the job , trust me .Roger #2 is on his way out ! Wagnor & his people ran out of ideas four years ago . Change is what is needed at the top . Roger may want to kill off Pontiac but Lutz will never let that happen .

Pontiac is actually making some cool and exciting cars again...I could totally see them killing the brand.

None of GM's brands have had much of a sign of identity until lately...and now they only have a shred of identity. Let each brand have a true identity and I think they would prosper.

If they don't want to give each brand an actual identity...clear and definite compared to the other GM brands...then the only reason keep all these different brands is so that you can saturate the area with GM dealerships. Can't put too many Chevrolet dealerships in one area...but you can put a Chevrolet dealer at one end of town and a Buick/Pontiac/GMC dealership at the other end. Toss Cadillac in with one of the two, and you have twice the coverage as the one Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealership. Unfortunately for the dense fools at GM, there are numerous imports with noticeable and striking identity also available.

There would be noting to replace Pontiac with. None of the models are shared, only similar platforms with a totally different body on it. F-Bodies at least shared a ton of stuff between them.

GMC I can't see costing that much extra to produce. It's only a few badge changes vs Chev. But, by stopping the production of the badges, they could save quite a bit, so who knows.

I doubt they'll dump Buick, since it's there affordable luxury line between Pontiac and Cadillac.

Well whatever they save on not making gmc badges, they'll spend on making more chevy badges. atleast most of it

Early last year GMC was GM's second biggest brand in terms of auto sales. Just ahead of Pontiac. Chevy is by far GM's biggest seller. Pontiac was number three.

The G5 is a dud. It was supposed to replace the Sunfire, a mass produced car, and Ive seen like 20.

They better start hauling ass with the G8 though. Its a great car, market it before gas prices get higher, and nobody wants to even look at one, Instead they only send 800 over the first year.

What needs to go first before anything is Hummer! Those are ridiculously impractical vehicles. Next would be GMC, as Chevy trucks sell just as well. Then Buick must go because no one except old folks buy 'em anymore, and Cadillacs have become more affordable now with the CTS line. That would leave only Chevy (best selling and most versatile of GMs line), Pontiac (which I believe still commands the younger segment of the market with affordable sporty cars) and Caddy (which will always sell well due to the Slade and the CTS). One way or another, though, something in the GM family has got to change if they want to stay profitable against the imports.
