Default New Pontiac Coming Out

The Firebird!.

Haha, you wish. The Canadian Wave / Daewoo Aveo is coming out in America as the Pontiac G3 or G4, proof that driving excitement is dead and Pontiac's marketing /naming division is a bunch of uncreative 'tards.

Best quote:

Quote:
Wave's 1.6L DOHC I-4 engine puts out 103 hp and 107 lb.-ft. of torque. That means responsive driving fun whether you're driving downtown or on the highway. Better still you get to burn rubber, not fuel.
Seriousily how does having a second rebadged Daewoo econbox help us?

How pathetic, it's just another Aveo.

I thought they were supposedly done with this whole rebadging cars multiple times in the US. Wasn't that the whole reason behind keeping the Firebird dead.

Yeah, well, those idiots only belive that to be true in the case of the Firebird. For EVERYTHING ELSE, it makes sense to them, yet they get all fire and brimstone when you talk about the Firebird. It's disgusting and pathetic. And I'm talking about most of the population of this site, not just Bob Putz and crew.

That said.... a small eco-box could make sense right now, and help for CAFE. But it's iffy about giving it to Pontiac. Depends on if they want to focus on just ONE kind of performance or not.

well unfortunately econoboxes seem to be the trend right now.

G5- Cobalt
G8- Holden Commodore
Solstice- Sky
Vibe- Toyota Matrix
Torrent- Equinox

i'm not sure about the G6, but this is Pontiac's lineup minus the G6. every car on there is a rebadge or has a clone in another division. i'm not sure what the acual reason is the firebird is not produced is, but saying they want to get away from rebadging is bullshit.

exactly. how can you be the "performance" division if you are rebadging other nameplate's cars? then everyone else has the performance too.

i test drove an aveo for my beater car. wow what a piece of junk. my 95 neon felt like better quality! I instead got a 03 focus which has the same, if not better fuel economy, partial zero emissions, and has amazing torque for a 4 cyl.

Man, they didn't even change the grill from the Daewoo :S Just slapped an Arrow on it...

Here's my thinking: If Pontiac wants to take a bunch of decent to awesome cars from some of their other markets (IE Holden, Opel) to save money and keep the Pontiac brand around, then I don't have a problem with that. Even if it does mean we get a crapbox every now and again. So, of the WHOLE Pontiac line up, we have how many cars to bitch about? One.. ONE car! That's PRETTY damn good if you ask me. G5, slick car, fair for a starter family. G6, even slicker for the settled down family that wants some style. G8, for anyone who just wants some room and a helluva good time! Solstice, a sporty little thang that looks great and has lots of potential, and the GXP has a nice power/weight. Soon-to-arrive Ute/Sport Truck/G8 ST: something light with balls and good style. Vibe, IMO it's not all that ugly of a car, and comes with AWD too. Drop in a Solstice GXP motor and that would hook pretty well, something to appeal to the ricer crowd but still be American and help Pontiac get some income. Torrent, not sure how long they plan to keep this guy around, but meh it's nothing too bad despite basically being a rebage as well.

So if you really want to list them as Blah and Good: Vibe, Torrent, Wave are blah. The Gs, Solstice and Ute are Good. 5 out of 8 isn't bad.

It's funny that you're all whining about this, when GM just anounced that from here-on-out, Saturn will be re-badged Opels. I agree. They're doing this with everything BUT the Trans Am\ Camaro badge switching. But there's a reason for that. I don't know what that reason is, besides Putz being cheap, but maybe we'll find out.

Thumbs up

Yeah the new Saturn (Opel) Astra should be pretty sweet and that new Chevrolet Beat looks to be a promising addition to the 'sporty' small car segment.

Those cars you just posted, LS1LT1, are the ugliest cars an american motors company ever put out. Another example of the de-man-ification of todays society. Boo ugly cars!

If it had some decent styling and could hang with a mini cooper I'd be all for a little econobox from Pontiac. It might not have torque or power but the handling would be fun. That make any sense to anyone?

As it is, a daewoo with a pontiac arrow on it again is an abomination....again.

Yes but that's what people are buying right now.
If it works for Honda, Toyota, Nissan and Mazda then it can work for GM too.
I want (need) GM to survive and thrive, not succumb to these Japanese car companies.

GM sucks right now and their financial/market struggles are showing that. There is nothing I would buy from Pontiac today for a car i would want a relationship with...such as our cars now. Id rather buy a low miles 02 hawk or something before any piece of shit from them. Sport truck give me a break i dont want a F**KING el camino, no offense to those who like those its just not for me. I might give them a look if they give me a v8 rwd 2 door that peforms equal or better than ours. g8 coupe, g8 gto, coupe 60, whatever they want to call it but until then they wont see a dime from me. this car wouldnt hurt the 35 mpg thing either especially if we can get high 20's easy with our 12 year old technology. Throw us a bone here GM or your 9 dollar a share is going to fall to nothing...

I've mentioned this many times, and also mentioned I can't find the article I read it from, but I think GM is in a ownership battle over the Firebird name for closing down the Alberta (I think it was there) plant that built our F-Bodies. It's not because they closed it, but for closing it early before the contract ended. Their contract was something around that the plant was commissioned to build F-Bodies for x more years, and then GM decided to kill off the line :\ I read this before the Camaro was a concept (or at least before I heard it was) and so I assume they worked out some deal to get the Camaro name back.

yeah but you make up a small piece of the market. the average joe hears "V8" and thinks it gets horrible gas mileage automatically. seriously why would you want a new firebird with an ancient pushrod LS3 that gets horrible gas mileage, doesn't handle well, and is decades away from japanese refinement when you could go out and get a honda civic si with 200 hp! cutting edge technology, and not to mention you're saving the earth with 29 mpg hwy. remember this automotive market thinks mini coopers are cool. the trendy thing right now is fuel efficiency and "reducing your carbon footprint." it will make a 2 door RWD V8 Pontiac a tough sell to non-enthusiasts. oh yeah and RWD is bad too.

Problem with the Aveo is it freaking sucks in every possible way.

Look at the Yaris for example, cheap, under powered but it has a nice interior and corners extremely well. It gets you good gas mileage and doesn't rub the fact you're driving a little shit box in your face.

The Focus is much of the same way IMHO, nice car, it goes about its business (namely good MPG) in style.

GM 4 door econboxes though just look shitty, feel cheap and just suck overall. The G5 and Ion coupe manage to look sporty, look nice, have good options. If you need 4 doors though to move kids or whatever, the Aveo though is just shit.

So when a consumer sits in a Aveo, a Fit, and a Yaris, the Aveo is going to be the last car considered because it sucks.

GM needs to design a decent 4 door econbox. The older Saturn SL series used to do is well (seated 4 comfortable, decent trunk and 33 mpg).
