| thinking of getting an fbody for a DD? Im not real happy with my 3000gt as my DD. only thing i like about it is that it gets good gas mileage and its decently quick for a N/A v6. the speakers are blown, FWD sucks, the stick shift in it can be a pain in the ass sometimes(nothing wrong with it just dont like the way it drives), its a jap car, and i paid more than i had originally wanted to spend.(car was 6500)
Anyway my question is do you think it would be worth it to get a firebird instead? i just like the way these cars drive and feel better than anything else. I would probably want an LT1/LS1 maybe a v6. ive driven v6 mustangs though and they are slow as shit. the trade off here is i could probably get an fbody cheaper than what i paid for the 3kgt and i would have a lower car payment but my gas bill would go up a bit and possibly insurance but not by much.
If i sold the 3kgt i would probably trade it in to a dealership because i dont have the time to sell it myself or the patience. but then i wouldnt get back as much as i paid for it.
Also kind of worried about once i have my Z back on the road, which wont be for awhile, i dont want to feel like i have 2 of the same car and be bored with the DD. How are you guys doing with more than one fbody? |

| Im interested in this and ill probably go look at it tomorrow. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...ice=&cardist=8
Seems to be in pretty decent condition. But Im kind of worried about the mileage. i know ls1/lt1's are pretty tough tho. my Z has about that same mileage and its been pretty good so far. what do you think of the price for this car? |

| ill never DD my fbody again. some people enjoy driving them daily but to me theyre just not very comfortable. theyre good summer and warmer climate cars but they suck in the snow though some have claimed to get through it with good tires.
i enjoy my SS alot. i just dont drive it daily anymore.

| I think my t/a is pretty comfy *shrug*
Mine was a DD last year while we were shopping for my gf a DD.
Currently it rarely gets driven but I had no problems driving it daily.. just not in the snow.
Im not saying it wont go in snow, (though it prob doesnt) I just know I didnt want salt/sludge/road-grime coating it.
The 3000gt is a pretty heavy car. I'd say the mpg you get w/the under powered v6 isnt much if any better than a stock LS1 equip fbody. |

I work at a car wash so i can wash the salt off of it anytime it snows. I drove the z in the snow a little bit when i first got it and it was totally fine as long as you werent being an idiot. |

| I'm thinking about getting and fbody to DD also, but I've recently considered splurging and going for the LS1 GTO. It seems like a nicer DD.

| I'd go for it then.
Def stay the hell away from the v6's.
You know the feeling you get when a VR4 pulls up side of you, and you know no matter what you do to your car, unless you want to spend a rediculous amount of money, that the VR4 will kick it's ass? That's the same feeling you will get driving a v6 when an ls1 pulls up lol. |

| Jeff everyone is gonna tell you the same thing here as on cz28.com. Having an LS1 with an LT1 as dd at 16 is a dumb idea.

| I have two LS1 F-bodies at the moment. My '02 Z is my DD, and the '98 Z is a strict show car (only driven to points judged car shows for competition). I love it. I've got a set of winter wheels/tires for the snow, and the only downside is the MPGs compared to my old DD (a Cavalier that was getting 35mpg). Snow tires (I have Bilzzaks) plus some weight in the trunk will get you though anything that a FWD econobox would get through.
Not sure why people don't find them comfortable. I do 70 miles a day in my '02 Z, and it's one of the best fitting cars I've ever had. Guess I'm just a perfect body size/type for this car (5'9", 175lbs, very athletic build). Guess if you were 6'4" and 275lbs it'd be pretty uncomfortable though.
No complaints here. But I almost never drive my '98 car. |

| When I had my Z28 it wasnt bad with winter tires. With sport tires it was tough to get up inclines but when I got the new tires and threw a couple hundred pounds in back it was fine. As long as your careful youll be fine.

| V6 is nice as a dd, i have to admit. Gas mileage is good, still looks badass, and the 3.8 isnt THAT slow in contrast to most of the other cars on the road. Its not like you are going to be street racing the whole way to work... |

| I think you are looking at a DD all wrong. You get a dd to save money and keep wear and tear off of another car. You want one that is quick, looks great etc etc, if you get that youll just say wow i wanna keep this nice too. You already have a nice dd and an LS1. Stop thinking while you are ahead and drive your 2 cars that are alot nicer than some 16yo only car.

Driving econo-junk just got old.
But I do agree that for a 16 year old, having a bunch of expensive cars is probably a mistake. Wait till you're older, working full time, etc. |

| I DD an LT1 Z28 everyday (Only for about 2 weeks now) and the T/A is purely just my toy. it can be beaten on, tore up and ragged every where i go because i know that i wont be in a bad situation if something breaks...
The Z28 is just a nice looking DD that is just a slow Lt1. i get good gas mileage since i drive all highway, but any parts that break are more than likely going to be OEM, or from the Trans Am. The Trans Am will get either a new replacement or a performance part in its place.
Get a DD f-body, i love having one for comfort and one for speed! i drove a couple hondas for about 2 years and every second sucked ass. The instant i got the Lt1 DD, i loved driving again!!!
