| Drug dealer, the pay is good, you will never loose your job, prices are stable, and no education is required. Just don’t get caught!

There is a difference in between being educated and being intelligent, educated is to know what other's ideas are, intelligent is to challenge those ideas! |

P.S.- Drug dealer is only good to get you through college... Eventually you'll have to get too deep and either go to jail for half your life or get killed by a crack head.

Most anywhere in the field is stable, I mean we do have layoffs but its mostly management roles, or they might phase out a department of service we provide. Might sound gay but a Nurse can really make good money and if its in a field like Emergency or trauma is a lot better then an ass wiper on a general floor.
My ex-wife is a Labor and Delivery nurse working as a traveler and depending on how much she works and the contract she signs makes between 80-100k a year.
Not bad for a 2 year degree..
Radiology, Nuc Med ect are all good fields to get into..
I say Nursing because there is such a high demand for it and will always be. |

| At this point, it's less about what you specifically do and more about what industry you're in (or what company you're working for).
Get into the Pharma industry, in any aspect (manufacturing, operations, logistics, R&D, etc.). So far in this field, we are largely unaffected by the changes in the economy. There will ALWAYS be money in drugs (legal or illegal...lol). People will pay to feel better when they're sick, even if it means cutting back on other basic stuff. |

| I personally have a Mechanical Engineering degree but in hindsight I should have chosen Packaging science (box making) the people who graduate from my college with that degree are making on average 30% more starting salary then a Mechanical Degree comparitive starting salary.
On another note, if you are into the medical field, becoming a nurse or a Registered Nurse Practitioner (with a license to script meds) is and always will be a highly viable career!
but it really comes down to what you want and what you feel... success is not dictated by how much money you make! |

| Very well said.
There have been a few good suggestions in this thread. Engineer's are always in demand, albeit its not an easy career to "jump in to" as the education requirement is demanding.
Accounting and funeral home business are also good to be in. I have very close friends in both of those careers and they are doing quite well.
I myself am in sales. Sales requires basically not experience to get a foot in the door and the income is limitless in most cases. BUT the thing that matters most right now is quoted at the top of this post. Its which industry you are in that will almost dictate how successful you will/can be. I live in Ontario, Canada and I sell furnaces and air-conditioners. I'm in one of the more secure industries right now in my opinion. The heating season is upon us and here, well, we can't go without heat due to climate. Come summer time if the economy doesn't shape up a bit the sale will be harder as AC is more of a 'luxury' item here but its still a good place to be. Much better than selling for Chrysler like I was a few years ago.

| If I were coming out of high school, I would only take two career paths. Medical related or Engineering. Yes, you can make good money in other fields, but those two are guaranteed and have longevity. There is a worldwide shortage of engineers and medical personnel, and most of these jobs will not be outsourced to India or China in the next decade.
I chose engineering (Mechanical) and have zero regrets.
