Default MPG Gauge/Calculator

Well one of my few complaints about my 2002 Trans Am is that it does not have a MPG gauge. I don't know about many of you, I don't really pay attention to my gas mileage and such around town, but I know when I drive buddies cars and I'm watching it I am more apt to drive better and get better gas mileage. Just as well I would find it pretty interesting just to be able and watch what kind of MPG I am getting at different rpms and not.

So far the ONLY aftermarket MPG gauge I have found is

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KIWI-...1%7C240%3A1318

Has anyone else looked into them or had any luck with any? I am very interested in getting one, but I won't pay more than 200 MAX for one.

Why not just use pen and calculator? Don't even need the pen...just too write it down. This is what I do. Wait till empty, close to empty, whatever. Fill up to the top, reset mileage. Next fill up, calculate the miles driven, by the gallons you just put in. There is mpg. Pen is to write down the mpg on the receipt, if so desired.

Because I like to watch how it changes as Im driving. I could figure it out myself on pen and paper. But if im driving and I can watch oh my mpg decreases this much at this rpm etc. Thats why I like them.

BETTER WAY:

MPG would be put out by the driver's information console. You could get one from a 2002 Blazer in a junk yard. Pay 50 dollars and hook it up to the class 2 data line on the BCM.

It should work....

Oh, I know what you mean. Like, the kinda accurate, fast acting ones? I would love one of those too...I was driving a s4, and it had it. Would read 82 mpg in 6th, foot off the gas completely, at low rmps...as soon as I changed gears, and got in it, dropped down to like 19..>I drove the piss out of it lol.

Yes those ones exactly, like I said, one of my only few complaints about my car.

using hptuners, you can setup a MPG gauge/meter or just have a readout on the table

http://www.hptuners.com/forum/showth...hlight=mpg+pid

i had it for a while, but it was painful to look over my logs when i got on the throttle.

what would it drop down to?

I would like to have one as well, as they are kinda fun to watch. I remember once I was riding with my grandma in something and was coasting down a hill, the thing topped out at 99mpg.

This is very simple - get a vacuum gauge, old school.
High vacuum is high fuel economy. Some of them
even have pretty little green, yellow, red for this
very thing.

Scangauge II all the way. I have one and I love it. Trip computer, gauge pod and scanner for $160 shipped. Can't beat it.
