Default I want to buy an AK-47, maybe online

So after shooting a friends AK-47, I've decided that I want one of my own. So... I started researching them and found that Romanian AK's are going from 350-550 or so. I took a trip around the city and can't find a price even near that. The best I saw was probably 725 or so. My next step is to do what I always do when I can't find decent prices, look online. Does anyone have any recommendations on where I should look, I definitely wouldnt mind a craiglists-like site where used guns are sold. Also, is it difficult purchasing assault rifles online?

I didn't even know you could buy guns online. I know for sure you can't get 'em on craigslist. Anyways good luck w/ your search!

Auctionsarms.com
Gunbroker.com

Gunbroker is a lot larger with more selection. If you buy something from one of those sites it has to ship to a FFL in your area who will then do the background check and paper work. Usually $20-$25 for a FFL transfer.

All semi-auto rifles are high right now. If you find one for $350 your doing pretty good but it will definitely be a low end rifle. But even a low end AK should run like a champ.

I've taken a look around, and many of them say you must ship them to a local gun shop. What exactly do you have to do, and how long does it take to register to have it shipped there

First of all, when going out to buy an AK, never call it -- or any other gun -- an "assault rifle." That's a term invented by the liberal Democrat media intended to cast a negative stereotype in order to further strip you of your Second Amendment right. Semi-auto rifle or just plain rifle is fine.

If I remember, I have a list of sites to buy them at home that I can copy and paste.

I agree to a certain extent, but honestly what is the real purpose of a semi/fully-automatic gun with up to a 100+rd capacity and a knife @ the end of the barrel? Sure not for huntin' deer!

Agreed. Defense of one's self, family, property, neighbors, and country. Defense of one's freedom. Also, some people collect guns who never fire a single shot. I know a few people who have $10,000+ collections who haven't shot a gun in more than a decade.

Let's not turn this into a Second Amendment debate. I probably shouldn't have said "Democrat" in my post. I apologize for that. I was trying to keep the OP from making a social faux pass when making a purchase.

Oh no don't take it the wrong way. I am a Pro-Firearms man myself. G21 .45, G22 .40, G17 .9mm w/ pre-ban 17rd mag, DE .357M, Ruger P95 9-mill just to name a few. My carry pistol is a Taurus "Millenium Pro" .45, which carries 10 rounds @ right around 20 oz. and is probably my favorite piece out of all. I'm a democrat but I am 100% for gun rights despite. That's probably the only thing I don't agree with President Obama on. Any person should have the right to arm themselves period.

It doesn't have to be a gun shop, just a licensed FFL. I just call the one in my area to let him know he is getting a shipment. When it arrives I go pick it up. Background checks and paper work isn't very lengthy these days unless there is a problem. If you aren't dead set on an AK and just want something to shoot for cheap the Hi Point is tough to beat. Lots of people bad mouth them and most of the people that do have never owned one. I see they are going up in price as well. It's a fun gun that is cheap to buy, cheap to shoot and I haven't had any problems out mine.

What do you need a semi-automatic rifle that can hold 100 rounds for when hunting?........

wild hogs.

If you've ever hunted them, you'll understand. If you haven't, you probably just asked that question.

Who told you that?

The term assault rifle is derived from the German word "Sturmgewehr," which literally means storm (active form) rifle. So it means, (to) storm rifle, or (to) assault rifle. It was a term coined by Adolf Hitler for the STG 44, which many consider the first assault rifle.

The US did right laws based around the term Assault rifle to distinguish it from others and many of them are pretty lame, but that is not where the name comes from. Assault rifles are an actual class of rifles and that is their proper name... No shame in calling it what it is.

Knowledge is power. LOL

Check out the Saiga series of rifles. I have a 7.62x39 that puts out 2.5" groups at 100 yards with open sights!!! They are very reliable all MILLED reciever and about the most accurate of the AK family. The only draw back is that they use a special magazine. Standard Ak mags will work but cause jams. HERE is the trick to get one to work. Make a ramp from steel and glue it to the ramp under the chamber, and the problem is solved!

Lol. Someone knows how to use Wikipedia.

I've never been anywhere where you could use that term without getting your head bit off. Come to think of it, I don't see you getting away with it on any forum I go to either.

Ya assault rifle is not the right terminology. There are many hunting rifles that are more deadly than an AK. Everything firearms related has gotten so expensive since O has been crowned. Never cared for AK's I'd rather have my Garand, or a Springfield M-1A for cap.

I thought that term "Assault Rifle" came from somewhere else. When someone said it was created by the democrats I was like "what the hell is talking about?".
