I know theyre completely different animals, but i cant make up my mind!! both have pros and cons, and i love them both so much! But living in San Fran, i think the solstice is the better choice because of tight parking and the gas mileage of the G8. I dont think ones any better than the other, but i also think it will be easier to find a solstice once im done with school. I think they are more or less weekend cars, and 4 years down the road i have a good chance of inding one with low miles. I think the generally customer for a g8, even a gxp, buys a large car for a reason. To have one car to do everything so 4 years from now it may be tough to find one with low miles. I think the btter thing to do is get a G8 GXP now, and after school but a Solstice GXP, then park them both lol and buy a BMW or something to DD. And i also really want a C5 ZO6 or a C6. *sigh* decisions............
DD - G8, Weekend Toy - Solstice. Either car is fun to drive but the G8 is just much more practical. However, your question is still comparing apples to oranges so its really about personal preference and what kind of lifestyle you live. Do you need a good size trunk? Do you take people with you when you go out? etc.
put a pedders coil over kit all the way around and you have a 4 door family car that performs and handles damn near like a vette.

G8 GXP gets my vote. Its a hoot to drive and extremely practical.
I really hate the Solstice because its the most pointless, useless car ever. Its about as practical as a lotus Elise, and weighs 1000lbs more. Even a Miata has a pretty decent trunk, its big enough for your luggage on a road trip or a week's worth of grocerys.

solstice gxp coupe, with a mallet conversion. that would be on rare car
Ive given a lot of thought to all of this, and put in an offer on a G8 GXP. My dad put in a query about a gxp ls7 solstice coupe from mallett. Im going to buy that one from him once im done with school. I think hell end up giving it to me for graduation, hes just going to pay on it till then! After all for high school graduation when i was 17, he gave my my 2002 firehawk! My dads so awesome! I hope i get that G8 becuase i want them both really bad, but i caould USE the g8 until i have them both you know?
Unless you are under 6' don't get the Solstice. I test drove one and clutching in and out sucked with the steering wheel in the way. Mallet conversions are incredible. Since you are getting the Solstice anyway, umm I think you answered your own question. Get the G8.

Solstice GXP Coupe baby. I loved the look of it when they had the original design, but then they came out with this gay "vert-only" bs and I wouldn't touch it. Now that they actually have the coupe it would be the car I would buy if I had the money.

G8 offer fell through, they said they wont let it go for under $45,000!!! Makes you wonder why they would even entertain the $30,000 i offered them, especially since its just been sitting for nearly 4 months! Im 6'2" and i'll admit, i havn't drove a soltice yet. But i had an Audi TT and i had plenty of room in there, i would assume the solstice had just as much room. I did hear that with the coupe you lose 2" of headroom. And they made 1400 solstice coupes, not very many in deed! But then again, how many G8 GXPs were made?
Well hell, since you are so hard up, I would probably just get 2 of both. Then you don't have to worry about it.
What the hell does that even mean? Do you mean i have money? Cause i dont, my parents used to have money, and my dad used to own 9 different car dealerships! They are retired now but still pretty well off. HOWEVER. thats my parents, thats not me! Cause they have money doesnt mean i do or that they give me any
I really, really like the solstice gxp coupe, but it's not a car you could use for everything, like driving more than one other person around, or putting more than groceries in it.
Solstice gxp coupe and an old 1500 quad cab would probably be the only vehicles i'd need, then maybe a project c5.
But yeah if you end up getting one, try to find one with the performance package thing, it's an extra 40 hp.
I won't consider the solstice until they drop ATLEAST the direct injection 3800 (that would be pretty sweet) into it.
I don't know about you, but the sound of an I4 buzzing on the highway makes me go crazy...
Actually, now that I think about it, I think GM really should have considered puting the 3.8 into the solstice.
It would weigh less, have more power, and would sound much better IMO.
It would also further raise the required production numbers of the 3.8, potentially making the other models with the 3.8 cheaper...
