That Ty looked really rough, that Sy how ever didn't look to bad but hard to judge by just a couple pictures on the internet and not knowing the history on it, miles, whats all wrong with it and so on.

The Sy looked pretty cool, not much of an SUV person, so no comment on the Ty.

Those two vehicles, almost no matter what condition would have been worth more than anything OBAMA would give them...
SY/TY vehicles are something that should never be junked almost no matter how bad they are.
No one will be able to even pillage parts off them, hell that cladding alone goes for thousands and both those vehicles look like they have clean cladding.

From what I hear one of the guys at gvr4.net took the pics of the ty, and will be getting parts off of it.(my buddy who is on there showed me the pic)

You guys are talking about just one of the many reasons why I HATE this program. I couldn't tell you how many foxes I've seen tossed..or 302 blocks from explorers.
Yeah for the treehuggers.

My local Chevy dealer has a very nice, extra clean late 80's/early 90's Chevy conversion van in the CFC lot. I looked at it, the paint was really nice, interior was mint, grey leather, vcr/tv, lots of wood. Odometer read 75k, pretty sure it had not turned over. That would've made Pedro an awesome $3000 ride to haul the kids in or use to haul carpet/pipes/whatever in for his business.
Such a freaking waste, just because its old and isn't worth a lot doesn't mean somebody can't get another trouble free five years/100k miles of service from it.
They also had a really nice black Range Rover, probably 80's/early 90's vintage, had the round headlights. Would make a cool trail rig for somebody, but I can understand why they junked it if it had some major mechanical issues. I'm sure those cost a fortune to fix.
Rest of the lot was pretty much beat up junk, but there were several 1990's pickups that would've made good work trucks if they ran great.

those cars in the dumpsters are just junkers they get to symbalize clunkers. i've seen 2 different cars in the bins posted that don't qualify. one was a ~ 1974 4 door chevy nova and the other was a 4 door ~ 1990 toyota corolla. one is too old, the other gets too good mpg.
not always. i saw an early-mid 2000s tahoe in a dumpster. truck was clean, near new, probably worth over 10-15K as is, and the moron c4c'd it. in the other thread on here, there was a vid of a very nice volvo. looked to be within 5yrs old, clean, loaded with leather, etc. douches poured the clunker killer in it, and blew the motor. probably worth 10K any day of the week.
The question I have is, if you saw these cars for sale, would you have bought them? Syclones are worth X! Typhoons are worth Y! Really? If you saw a Syclone on sale for $8000, would you have bought it?
Sometimes, there just isn't a market for a car when the owner wants/needs a new one. There was a story on CNN about a Maserati that got clunkered. Owner tried for months to sell it, and ended up getting $3500 for it from C4C, which was his asking price for the car in the first place. It was an unreliable POS, but certainly more rare than a Sy/Ty.
Don't get me wrong. I think C4C is a horrible program, mostly because (as I've said before) some of the cars that get clunkered are a lot nicer than cars I see out on the road. Problem is, the people who drive really beat up POS's can't afford an upgrade, even with the government's help. If the clunkers were sold selectively to lower income folks, rather than arbitrarily destroying them all, more people would benefit. But this isn't about people benefiting. It's about indirectly giving more money to the automakers.

actually the problem is that the people who drive POS's can't use CFC because the cars themselves don't qualify. how often do you see a clunker like this? i see them frequently
The real clunkers like the Tempo, Escort, Cavalier, etc don't qualify as a clunker

Agreed 100%. As a Typhoon owner the market is SHIT. If I could get a Chrysler like deal of $4500 CFC and a $4500 match for a G8 GXP + incentives I would clunk this bitch in a heartbeat.

I think we're saying the same thing, but let me clarify. That POS you pictured is far worse off than most of the cars being turned in. What I would love to see would be for people with really beat up cars (like the one in that picture) to have an opportunity to trade their POS for one of the clunkered cars. That way, they get a better car (and better for the environment, since that's what the government is trying to tell us anyway), and the REAL clunkers get scrapped.
Problem is, that doesn't get money to the automakers, and the dealerships lose out, unless to gov't were to step in and help.

Neither foxes nor 302 blocks are rare yet. I just trashed the 5.0 H.O. from my '89 Mustang LX, and the 'stang is soon to follow, I just used it to test fit the 5.3 that's going into my '85 LTD 4-door. Insurance on a V8 LTD is far less than for any 'stang, yet all the good aftermarket stuff for the 'stang works on the LTD.
