C4C is a goddamn joke IMO. There are dealers that are taking in cars that don't even fit the bill just so they can get a sale. I saw a 2004 Volvo S40 in the C4C section of a local Mazda dealer, you're telling me the 4 or 5 cylinder (Didn't look at the trunk lid) doesn't get 18mpg combined? Or the Cavaliers/Sunfires/Escorts I've seen in the yards and on YouTube? Hell, my 91 Tracer LTS got 30mpg combined and I thrashed the shit out of it.
I just don't get it. People trade in these cars that are already paid for and in seemingly good condition so they can put theirselves in more debt than they are likely already in. So instead of paying for just gas and minimal insurance on the old car, now they have to pay that plus a car payment and more expensive full coverage insurance.
Anyways, to be more on topic with the Sy and Ty that were clunked (Credit to whoever posted that, you coined it in my eyes. ) the Syclone is located in Louisville, KY and a shitload of guys on Syty.net are talking with the dealership with the truck and are trying to salvage it. If the dealership didn't submit the paperwork then likely they'll just take $4500 or so and let the Sy back into the publics hands. The Typhoon is in Washington and indeed the red/red combination was rare, something like 50 were made all together.
A fellow on Syty.net has a Syclone and Typhoon he wants to get rid of, he's asking $12,000 for them both but if he doesn't get that he's going to clunk them. Now what the fuck sense does that make? Trash two highly collectible and sought after vehicles instead of just taking less than $12,000 and keep them alive? A guy on Syty.net offered him $9,000 for the pair, then he can just put the cash towards a new car if that's what he wants.
The 93 Cobra previously mentioned was supposedly a rust bucket from what people say, so maybe it wasn't a bad decision. The red Typhoon had some rust on the tailgate which is common and easily replaceable as there is nothing Typhoon specific on it besides the stickers. Other than that the body is clean and don't even get me started on the Syclone. It has something like 60,000 original miles on it and has never seen winter. That's why the KY guys are so adament on saving it from certain doom. Even if the paperwork is submitted, the junkyard still doesn't have to crush it for six months so it can be parted out and at least the uber rare cladding and interior can be put back into circulation. The motor is no big deal anyways, it's not a special 4.3, it's pretty much a stock V6 with lower compression pistons.
Ugh, I can rant for hours about how much I hate this piece of shit program but I have better things to do.
Plus, if the bill says "no rare or limited production cars" and uses the Grand National as an example, then why are they accepting SyTy's which are much rarer than the turbo G-Bodies???

My parents' 06 Chrysler Pacifica is a NICE vehicle. And it is a "clunker" because of its MPG rating. However, my friend's old Toyota Tercel, which has seen much better days, is NOT a clunker under this program.
How retarded can you get? Seriously?
And it can't be just for the environment. Come on, most of these cars when their engines are blown up are sending plumes of smoke and crap into the atmosphere, worse than their typical tailpipe emissions. So hypocritical!!
This is a bs program. Watching that vette go up in smoke almost made me cry! Not my favorite one, but still! This program has nothing to do with real "clunkers" but rather an enviro movement that is going to do more harm than good. What a waste. Maybe I will go work on my header install and put the speed on egr/air delete and add the gutted cat mod.

I heard today that the Ford dealer across from the oil change place i was at had some idiot try to trade in a 2008 Ford Expedition in for CFC and it didn't qualfiy because it was too new so they gave him $4500 trade in for something and then turned around and put the truck on the used car lot for whatever they retail for. kbb says one with average mileage of around 20k is worth $25,225 in good condition for trade in. thats a base model 2WD. I bet it was stolen or something. Retail on that truck is $31,435
I didn't believe it but the shop sells tires to Ford and thats where they heard the story from so i don't see why they'd lie.

This is exactly my point. Aside from a very small minority of people, these are NOT sought after. If he can't get $12,000 for the pair, that doesn't strike me as being all that popular. If he's serious about clunkering them, he should take the $9000 offer and run.

A syclone guy told me that just the piece behind the rear wheel that wraps around the corner of the truck is worth $1200... if you can find one. so 2 of those = $2400 and there is still the rest of the GFX to part out. the main reason those 2 pieces are so expensive is 1. there are no good aftermarket ones and 2. the Typhoon has a shorter peice there since the bed is shorter so they are not interchangeable.

Those two vehicles, almost no matter what condition would have been worth more than anything OBAMA would give them...
SY/TY vehicles are something that should never be junked almost no matter how bad they are.
No one will be able to even pillage parts off them, hell that cladding alone goes for thousands and both those vehicles look like they have clean cladding.
Why do you think nobody will be able to get parts from it? They still go to the salvage yard and get stripped. The only conditions are only certian yard are certified to get them and they need to be crushed with in 6 months

*update*
apparently the used car manager was able to get the dealer to stop the paperwork process and bought the syclone for $4800. here is a quote from the syty forums

From the sales manager:
I now have the keys to the Syclone and should get the ok on Monday to get it home. I did get to drive it in the parking lot and it runs, shifts and drives fine but it wants to die in gear but just placing my foot on the gas in gear keeps it going, with or without the AC on. The seats look like new and it really is a solid truck. I would live to find a original black paint door for the because it looks like it still has all factory paint, I will know more when I clean it up. Survivor??

Man the dying in gear could be a very simple fix. Amazing what people turn in cars to C4C over. Like that vette for a simple misfire

that L98 vette had a misfire? thats most likely a plug or wire, if it was an LT1 i'd say maybe worst case the opti but it was an L98. that syclone was really clean other than one of the doors having a dent in it and i wouldn't be suprised if the dying in gear is something stupid like maybe it needs plugs/wires or even an air or fuel filter.
