I realize I posted before about a 68, but I was told NO to buying it.
I found a 74 for cheap ($5000) and it has a brand new 383 with 5k miles on it.
I didn't get a specific no on this one, so I need some information about them.
I'd still love an older Camaro and this one fits the bill. I think it's the first year of the restyled front, which isn't my favorite, but I can get used to it. (Maybe it's changable?). It'd be nice to have this for Pro Street, I'd have about 3k cash to sink into mods.
It's either this, or an Avalanche (which I also like).
Opinions?

i dont really love the front ends of the 74's, but if the body's in good shape and you like it, go for it.. im sure theres some way to convert it to a 70-73 front end style considering most of the body is the same.

I figured, kinda like a front end swap for LT1/LS1 front ends. Think the price sounds right? Car looks to be in decent shape, no visible rust (no undershots either).

For $5,000, make sure it's in excellent condition and check every single one of the trouble spots. Big bumpers can be made to look really good and, if you don't like the look, the front and rear fascia is easily switched out. You also get the small rear window, which a lot of folks prefer.
If you need any help or advice with 2nd gens, hit me up. I've been through my old Formula enough times.
Sounds a little high, at least for my area. I never like the aluminum bumper 2nd gens. I looked at a 74 last year with a built 396 (of course, not stock) and he couldnt get $4000 and it was in great shape.

I had a '74 and I really liked it.
I had a Muncie M22 4spd in mine and I did a lot of motor work on it.
If the one you are looking at already has a built 383 and is in good condition I say go for it.
I actually like the big bumpers on them, my cousin and I would play bumper cars against each other in our cars. The bumpers are very stout.

Thanks guys. Based on the responses I got here and other forums, I'm going with the Avalanche.

I don't think it's built. I'm pretty sure it's a crate 383.

It better be in pretty nice shape for $5k for a 74, the front end is easily switched, you will just have different tailights. I do like the 74s because they didnt have the back window that curves around the side.
I know you said you're going with the Avalanche instead, but you should check out NastyZ28.com.
It's the forum I used when I had my '79 and you can browse their for sale section if you ever decided to go 2nd gen in the future. Either way, good luck with the purchase.
