As far as why I'm running the Rotella T, I visited the shop of a individual who worked on some pretty tweaked out 4 cylinders. Long story short, when it was all said and done I asked him what type of oil he ran in his cars and he pulled out the Rotella T. He had that stuff by the case. He said that he runs this oil in all his applications and he's never had a problem.
I asked him about thr 15w40 and he said that that specific grade is base stock. Any smaller and your just paying for diluted oil. Any thicker and your adding plastic to the oil. 15w40 is pure basestock oil and probably the best grade you could run in any given application.
Guy seemed like he knew what he was talking about, and claimed to have 7 years of Formula One experience.
Needless to say I switched both cars over to 15w40 and no problems whatsoever. If you pay attention to the choices on the shelf you also see that the 15w40 is commercial grade and usually cheaper by most standards.
As far as the proper grade, it meets the service requirements that are posted on the oil cap.

Rotella T is great shit. I used it in my gearbox when I raced dirt bikes. I also know a lot of people who ran it in their streetbikes and when it came time to pull the motor apart eveything was in great shape.

And if you think your pushrod large displacement gasoline engine has anything in common with a Formula One engine, your sorely mistaking. Really not trying to be rude at all, its just a completely different situation. Like asking Col. Sanders to cook up some Creme Brulée.

You must have missed the part where the guy said he was running the stuff in his high performance 4 cylinders.
Speaking of waiting too long between oil changes... When I was in high school auto shop, a teacher brought in her cobalt with 40,000 miles, and the original oil! I took the oil drain plug out and nothing happened. We had to remove the oilpan and scoop out all the sludge, then we took the valve covers off and cleaned up in there too. She brought us donuts the next day.
