Running 6300 miles on this oil change in the Lexus.
Hopefully my engine won't blow up. :o
It's not like I intentionally rode it over. I've been driving the car like a bandit since I've gotten it and I've logged over 12000 miles since March, and 6000 since I changed the oil. I just haven't had a chance to change it because I've been so busy.. well that and the oil has never burnt off and it's still golden when I check it on the dipstick.
Running SuperTech 15W-40 and a crappy fram filter right now.
Since I didn't expect to be driving the car this much, I'm going to run RottelaT 15W40 and a Fram Extended Guard filter this go around and see how this goes.
However, based on how the oil currently looks and the way the car drives, I don't think it even really needs a change but 6000 is really pushing it.

OMG 6300 MILES WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU YOU BROKE THE CAR
Hey, I was gonna say that.

Right, so 6000 miles on Walmart oil and a Fram filter isn't the least bit concerning to anybody because it kinda is to me considering that the majority of the people on this forum freak out when they hit 6000 miles running full synthetic and 10 dollar oil filters.
1- What the hell are you doing running 15w40 in a Lexus? It better be smoking like a crackhead or have 200,000 miles on it, otherwise that's a moronic choice of oil weight.
2- Are you really serious?
3- This thread sucks. No stars, 0/10, will not read again.

I'm at 7k miles on the same thing in my beater civic.......it doesn't deserve any better. it runs like a champ, and i'm sure your fancy toyota does too.

I'm running 15W-40 because it's commercially the most abundantly available grade out there. I switched the Lexus and the Roadmaster over to 15W40. The only reason I haven't switched over the Camaro is because it sits a lot and it's running M1 Synthetic. (1yr/15K miles).
*edit* I'm not running Rotella T in the Bike. I considered it but I'm actually running the M1 20w50 Gold Cap in the Bike. Even so I still knocked approx. 40 bucks off of the oil change interval.
When your running and maintaining multiple vehicles, it gets a little old paying 40+ bucks to change the oil every three months. Eventually you have to start figuring out what the cost/benefit analysis is.
I take most of my vehicles to 5-6k miles between oil changes on regular old dino oil - nothing wrong with that, especially if you're making longer trips. Its the heat cycles that gets moisture into the motor and contaminates the oil. One 1,000 mile trip cross country does not impact the oil like one hundred 10 mile commutes back and forth to work - it all depends on what kind of drive you do.

HEY now, I was going to say that. This is true. I regularly go 5000 or more on an oil change. Of course I drive 110 miles round trip to work and back. That's in my 94 v-6 Bird. My 04 Duramax tells me to change the oil every 13,000 miles. I normally change it at 5,000. I do think that 13,000 is a little far to be changing the oil.

I'm pretty sure my Z/28 book calls for every 7,500 miles under normal, not taxi-cab or dusty conditions. I usual go around 5-6k, it goes 30 miles each way to work, and lots of other places each evening.

You need to run the correct weight oil specified by Toyota. Running that maple syrup through there is probably doing way more to gum up the engine than letting it go 6000 miles.
Also, what type of Lexus is it?
I usually change mine between 4-5k. I run plain old regular oil in my car, I don't think synthetics were invented yet its so old.

lmao this made me laugh. Ok lets talk cost/benefit. So $12.x a month per car outweighs the price of a new engine or core part? Its a small price to pay to maintain your engine, and get the right oil already

I dunno, I do most of my driving on the highway now (commute 55 miles one way to work). I changed my oil (M1 5W-30) at nearly 4000 miles and it came out a pretty dark brown. I wouldn't want to go 5000+ miles on it.
went 8k in my old 2.8 v6 s-10 pile and it came out in decent shape.. ran like a damn top.
as alot of people tell you, the 3k mile oil change interval was put out by oil companies.. the least mileage ive seen in an owners manual was 5k miles, usually closer to 6 or 7.
In my Formula I would go 5k, 6k even 7k one time on regular oil and thats with track racing once a month and street racing almost everyweekend.
My old boss had a newer E class and S class Benz and he wouldnt change the oil for 25k miles in either one. When I quit, both cars had over 150k miles on them and still going strong.
